I was at the local mall today and saw someone from work who's been off on mat leave. She had her baby with her so I went over to say hi. This is how it went:

Me: Hi! Is that your new bundle of joy? I didn't even realize you were due yet.

Her: (Eying me suspiciously... as though I was going to grab the baby and run) Yeah... I actually had him in March.

Me: Well, he's just adorable. Look at all that hair!!

Her: (You can see the lightbulb moment) Oh... Thea! I didn't recognize you. You've lost so much weight!

She just made my day

Aw, what a fabulous feeling you must have had! I'm so happy when I hear stories like this. It makes all the waiting and the changes SO worthwhile and it gives our ego a much needed boost. Good for you Thea - you deserve to have this joy-filled moments! Congrats!

I'm glad the lightbulb went on for her, because I'd hate to think someone thought you were a baby snatcher!!

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

I had a similar situation with a neighbor about 2 weeks ago. I stopped and said hello to her and she looked at me hard and mumbled and walked away. a couple of hours later I was outside with my daughter and she came over and was very embarrassed. she did not recognize me and thought my husband was with someone else and how dare he bring "her" to the market especially when I was still in the house ~lol~ we are still laughing about it.
