I would like to know if anyone here has had iron infusions through IV, if so did you have to pay for it, what did it cost, and what hospital did you have them done at?  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I am undergoing Iron Infusions now. There is no fee it is covered through OHIP. I was referred by my family doctor to a hematologist who then decided what the best course of treatment was for me. I had a DS so the procedure is a little bit more different but not much. I have had 2 so far and have had some complications. I am going ever 2 weeks but again that is not always normal it depends on your levels.

I am in the Niagara Region and having my infusions at one of my local hospitals.

Hmmm... yet I have to pay for the prescription. Thankfully it's covered under my health insurance at work.

I was paying for the perscription too but I am greatful that it is covered. I am starting my osteporis infusion next week and most of it was covered by my insurance not OHIP. The IV medication was 800.00 and I only had to pay 80.00. I just about fell over when I heard how much it was. I could not imagine what I would have done if I did not have benefits....

Onkee, do you work at Humber, which site?  Are you able to make referrals directly for patients for the IV infusions?  Or do you know a Heamatologists at Humber that offers the infusions with no cost to the patient?  I have no health insurance and my iron and Hemoglobin are low and I've been told that I need iron infusions but that I have to pay for the medication which they told me would cost about 1000.00 for each infusion.....and the doctor said I'd need 3 or 4 infusions, there is no way I can pay 3-4 thousand dollars to get my iron levels back to normal, I would really appreciate any info anyone could pass along.  I've read your post Onkee about the iron deficiency, very well done and a lot of really great information.  If I don't get my energy back and start functioning normally again I'm going to lose my job, cause I'm just not functioning normally like this, I really need to do something fast.  Would appreciate whatever help I can get from anyone here.

Thanks
