After a long time sufference.  Unable to lay flat because of GERD and a significant hiatis hernia since September may be even longer.  I was unable to keep solids down since November 9th because a full 1/3 of my stomach was incarcerated in my chest.  I started optifast Nov 15.  There were several attempts to get me to surgery sooner, all in vain.  Finally Tuesday morning came and went started .  Unable to lay flat i started with the OR table tilted up, with laughing gas, Drs Hagan, Klein Hyunn and two residents also in the room.  Hagen had to put in a central line.

My sleeve was perfect, my esophagus a mess, they relined it with a piece of small intestine, rebuilt me a gastric pouch with what remained of my green bean and yet another piece of small intestine.  I have a short limb bypass, something to do with the design of my knew gastric pouch.  and so know I start again.  No more green bean, a hybrid bypass.

The good news I lay flat Tuesday for the first time since late August, pain of GERD and Reflux gone and the limited diet is old school for me.

Some complications had physicians arguing about taking me back to the or to drain a significant haematoma.  Six days later I am home peeing like a race horse. . .but feeling much better for the wear

I am so happy to hear that your surgery was a success and that you are doing better now. We had our etobicoke coffee chat night a couple of weeks ago and were wondering how you were and when your surgery was going to be. I am sending some healing vibes your way. Take care and have a great Christmas.

Oh thank God!  I am so glad to hear that you are no longer experiencing the previous symptoms.  May your recovery continue to give you strength.  All the best of the holiday season.

I'm glad you are ok!! What an ordeal. Does this mean you have to follow more of the RNY guidelines? Meaning you could be prone to dumping and such? Malabsorption and such?

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
