Just curious because I know my hospital's (HRRH) guidelines are different than others.

What did you eat and drink during your pre-op diet?

And how long did you have to do it?

And did you feel good or crappy?

The first 3-5 days are the worst and you feel really crappy because your body is going through withdrawal. I went through HRRH and even though we were allowed a few greens I only ate them on Sundays when having family dinner other than that had decaf tea and coffee, soup broth, crystal light and SF jello.

I followed St. Joe's Hamilton's pre-op diet and they only allowed clear fluids with Optifast.  I didn't have much of anything else with the Optifast.

I did 2 weeks and didn't find it that bad I put my mind to it and had no problems at all. I felt great during my 2 weeks of Optifast.

Best of Luck!!!

Through Ottawa

had broth, decaf coffee, and SF Jello

I didn't mind it.  First week was harsh, after that ok.

I am on opti right now and I am drinking lots of water and I have a couple of pieces of celery and a couple slices of cucumbers a day.  I feel great-had a bad headache one day and that was it.  I also had a caffeine free diet coke once.  I am on shakes for 2 weeks and my surgery is the 27th of this month.

I'm also with HRRH and I had 28 days....Had a little 15-minute meltdown on the night of day 2...lol...but I felt great during the entire 28 days...I didn't have ANYTHING while on it.  I know they say we can have this and that blah blah blah but I'm so pig headed that I didn't allow myself anything bu****er in between shakes...and LOVED the results has I lost 27lbs...lol

Best of luck!

It is interesting that 2 of my friends did 7 days, one did 14 days and some do 28. I wonder how they determine?

It goes by how much each individual weighs...over 400lbs = 4 weeks over 300 = 3 weeks...at least that's what I was told..lol

The first time I did Opti I had the shakes, decaf coffee/tea and lots of water.  The odd time I had cucumber or celery in some chicken broth, but it was only a few times that I did that.

The second time I had the same but about half way through I started having 2 cups of broccoli cooked with a bit of garlic and chicken broth....it was like a soup and I really enjoyed it.  I found the second time I was much hungrier for some reason.

Overall I felt pretty good.  The first time I had a few days that were tough emotionally but the second time was a breeze.

I had 3 weeks of it and I never felt bad or had a hard time with it. I think the reason was I knew that it was a beginning of a new life for me. I was only allowed broth, sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles but i never bothered with any of that. I was fine. I still want to the the pool everyday and did my swim and the exercise class. It was only towards the end I had to leave the water work out. I had done my swim but just could not do the work out not enough energy in me. I did a half mile swim so I can not complain. I think you just have to put your mind in the right frame and just do it.
