Are these numbers off?

I went for my three month post-op appointment with the nutritionist and behaviorist.  I was given the following numbers to follow daily:

1200 calories

63-94 gr. protein

120-130 gr. carbs

the rest from fat

Do you vets out there think this too many carbs?  I am only just over half way to goal and I thought we were supposed to be approx. 40/30/30 protein/carbs/fat.  I know I would be ingesting good carbs, but isn't that number too high compared to the protein????

thanks,

Debbie

I'm 2.5 years post op.

This is what I'm eating today:

1353 Calories

179 carb/96protein/32 fat

51.65% of my total calories today are carbohydrates

27.77% calories are from Protein

20.58% calories are from Fat

I think if you get your 60g of protein in from good sources and stay away from bread rice, crackers, pasta etc. you don't need to be so strict on carbs.

I didn't pay attention to carbs at all until i was about 15 pounds from goal.

I should add I'm currently eating to lose a few pounds and I'm not exercising.

Hope this helps.

A lot of it depends on your level of activity. When I am active I consume more carbs. Right now I am very un active and that many calories and carbs would make me gain. You have to work out what your body is telling you. You are probably fine this close to your surgery.

Thank you Pat.  I exercise 5 times a week, swimming laps or going to the gym.

If you exercise 5 times a week then the amount of carbs etc are correct for you.

Your body needs a different number than others do so it's not really accurate to ask anyone else although I understand wanting to get a feel for what every else is doing

They may not be nearly as active as you and that amount of carb/calories wouldn't be right for them.

So enjoy that new body!

Hi,

Went to my six month follow-up a couple of weeks ago, and because of my activity level (I'm in the gym about 6 times a week doing strength training and/or cardio), nutritionist wanted me to increase my calories to about 1500, and about 170 grams of carbs.  She said the right breakdown for those active should be:  50% carbs, 30% fat, and 20% protein.  That works out to about 70 to 80 grams of protein.  And of course, she urged healthy carbs like whole grains and fruit.

Hope that helps!

DD

Wow!  I'm 3 weeks out and can't even imagine eating that much of anything!!!  Right now I am eating about 600-700 calories, 60-70g of protein and somewhere around 40-50g carbs.  Yikes!
