My surgery is in 9 days. I bought some of that unflavoured protein powder from bulk barn. How much of it would I put in a gastric bypass sized serving of a meal?

Oh gosh let me think, I think I "halfed" the protein shake powder and milk.... other times I made the whole shake kept it in the fridge and just took measured portions out. I am sorry I can't believe I don't remember. The good news is keep it up and they work. I still enjoy my protein shakes one year out. There are many great protein shake recipes out there. Good luck and keep smiling it gets easier and becomes so ingrained that measuring and counting feels natural.

Each day I will open my eyes and believe it is a great day to be me.

take your vit's and protein powder (name and strength) with you to the hospital. Not to take them there - but the NUTS will come around and see you prior to D/C and they can give you feedback. They also put down on a chart for me - when to take what and how much . (depends on the strength of the protein powder) heart

Hi Sylvie, I've added protein powder for the first time this morning to my breakfast. I've added 1 oz of the unflavoured whey isolate to 2 tbsp cream of wheat 1/4 c of skim milk 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp sf hazlenut torani syrup. Eating it at the rate of 2 tbsp every 15 minutes and it seems to be going down nicely. and gives me 23 g. of protein to start the day.
Wow, 9 days.....getting excited?

Yes, getting excited. The best part will be no more Opti. I'm getting sick of it. I'm glad to hear you're getting food in with no problems. How much is an ounce of protein powder? Is that like a teaspoon or tablespoon?

So, when you're in hospital they will give you little 1 oz cups to monitor your liquid/food intake every 15 minutes. I brought a bunch home with me and I'm using those to measure things. It's equivelent to 2 tbsp.

Ok, great. How are you making out with the tinzaparin injections?

No problem at all, I was injecting myself from the 2nd shot on at the hospital, I have lots of practice though, was on victoza ( a non-insulin diabetic injectible) for 3 years, and insulin for 6 months prior to surgery though, so I guess I have an unfair advantage where the shots are concerned.

This is actually the only part the freaks me out. Do you just grab a roll of tummy fat and stick it in?

yes and they will teach you. It really is no big deal.

Roll some fat - we all have that. LOL. Disinfect it - and stick. (very small very thin needle) you will hardly feel it. I did "pinch" my belly fat a bit and that helps.
