Sorry it has nothing to do with it but I'm desperate...lol

looking to fly for ONLY one day in TO to find a evening/ball gown for a ball I'm attending soon and know that someone here would have great suggestions..:)

the only places I know I might have a chance will be at Holt Renfrew, then "maybe" the Eaton Centre would have something?  Maybe BCBG?  The Hudson Bay?

I'm looking for any suggestions.....Makes it harder to look for something with sleeves has my bat wings are way too hanging.

Thanks everyone!

Nathalie

No shopping suggestions as I'm not any more familiar with the GTA than you....just wanted to say lucky you getting a chance to get all gussied up and strut your stuff. I love formal events and sadly never get to attend any!

Please post photos so I can live vicariously through you!  Hope you find an awesome dress.  Muriel

Holt Renfrew would be on my list then I'd walk around Yorkville since you will be there and go into some of the independently owned shops and look as well.  Ann Taylor at the Eaton's Centre usually has nice ones.  Most bridal shops would have something and with it being prom season, most stores in general will have tons of dresses.  I believe Laura carries gowns as well. I would to the Eaton's Centre in through the Bay and make my way to the top floor of the Eaton's Centre if the Bay has nothing and most of the stores up there will have something.

I'd be going towards CwC for answers about gowns and stuff

but....you could also look at gowns online so you get any idea of what you would like

Good luck!!

There's a number of options in Sherway Mall, on the Queensway near the 427, a fairly short cab ride from Pearson.  My daughter just went through the prom dress thing and I chauffeured.  She looked at The Bay, Sears, and a few stores in between the two.  She ended up buying from the internet and taking it to a seamstress to alter it for her.  There were a number of stores on Queen Street West around Bathurst that she shopped at as well.  Good luck and I eagerly await photos!

hi Nathalie, your post made me curious and so I searched google for rental gowns toronto (a friend of mine rented her wedding dress some years ago and I thought it was a great idea) Mr Google gave me many sites but one stands out www.rentfrockrepeat.com fab website, well laid out, you can use the drop down menu for length of dress, etc and you just mail it back - just an idea, whatever you do, have a blast, it is so much fun to get dressed up, not to mention the hair, makeup, accessories, so have fun and post pix after the ball

best wishes, Sheila

I... Shop... Enough said. Mermaidz knows that.

You said Ball. I love Balls. I have notice the trend moving away from very long dresses (though my personal preference still) to incorporate ****tail dresses at Balls and Gala's so I will include some info about that also.

I am going to give you my short list of where I would try if HR didn't have something or wasn't in your budget. Since Holts is near Yorkville... Anything in that area is an easy swing/walk, and then there are the Queen west options you could group with Eatons Centre, etc.

Phone each place you are considering. Ask if they have formal dresses with sleeves. Put them on a short list in priority. Map it by area. Shop.

Time of year means you may get clearance prices on anything sleeved. YAY summer coming! *looks innocent*

Make sure you have the undergarments you intend to wear. Buying a dress without that in place is often a struggle because something that looks reasonable without them is often bad with, and something that you'd have passed over will be stunning with them.

Undergarments:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Alexandra-Fine-Lingerie-Swimwe ar/156861951047423?v=info (Yonge north of bloor and a short cab from Yorkville)

http://www.thebrabar.com/ (Yorkville)

http://www.secretsfromyoursister.com/ (Bloor & Bathurst area)

http://www.stellascorset.com/ (closer to the Yorkdale Mall (and relatively close to Ediths) for their flagship store but there is another in Brampton with authorized retailers all over)

Dresses:

http://www.edithsfashions.com - My GO TO for one stop dress shopping for my friends. they ABSOLUTELY have Formal WITH Sleeve OR Jacket (jacket option is ultra handy especially if you will be doing plastics... You can alter a jacket and dress combo very well) in Evening Gowns or ****tail dress length. This place can be overwhelming but it can seriously cut down on travel. They keep stock ON site (a problem with many formal wear stores).

http://www.plrg.ca/ (Yonge near Eglington)

http://fashioncrimes.ca/  *cough* *whisper* Vamp Sleeve options under ****tail. Vamp Gown, Drew Dress, Lace OR Satin Holly Jacket (can double as a dress or jacket... seeing is believing), Satin Holly Dress under Red Carpet. (Queen West)

If you can wrap your head around a jacket/stole/shrug/etc. then look up this site. I love the concept and it is on my "to buy" list http://twobirdsbridesmaid.com or "how to tie" shows "full coverage" which drapes the upper arms loosely. (I am in lust with the Chiffon and would totally consider it with one of the jackets I saw on Fashion Crimes site by looking under the hourglass body type. It was called the rib tickler.) (Queen West)

http://tntfashion.ca (an Eglington West location and a Yorkville location)

Eatons Centre has http://www.anntaylor.com (647) 748-8001 and I figure that i**** and miss. Do not even know if they have any real selection of formal wear there.

I am awestruck at your knowledge and delight in it.   Oh, if you were only in Ottawa, I'd hire you in a heartbeat as a personal shopper.

You are amazing!

I shop every time I go for a visit!
