I am just getting back into my 12 hr DDNN shifts 8 weeks post op VGS. My hospital let me come back modified for which I am so grateful. That's coming to an end though. How do you nurses handle the fast pace but still getting in all the protein/small meals you need in that 12 hrs? I don't even want to think about all the water I need to drink then spending the time in the BR getting rid of it. Is a nurse allowed to catheterize herself? :))  I have bought a supply of protein bars and ready made protein shakes for those no time to eat days. Any other suggestions from others would be appreciated.

You may want to keep a bottle and some snacks at the nurses station. Maybe keep something in one of your pant pockets in a little baggie if possible. Maybe a watch with an alarm to remind yourself to eat?

I just came back to 12h shifts last week and was modified for 7 shifts and am now on my own.  I'm so far finding it okay to manage... I drink 3 glasses of water on my way to work and have my protein shake during report.... then plan the rest of my day around what is going on... So far so good... The timer is a good idea!
