Hi Everyone! My surgery is on May 21 at St Joe's I live about an hour and a half away so am considering staying at a hotel. Any recommendations? Would much rather go home, but depending on how I feel, want to be prepared to stay if need be.

Hi - I will be same day same place, I too am  planning on coming home, but will stay if I feel I need to. I looked at hotels.com and there are a bunch within a short drive.

As for the blood sugars they will be monitoring you very closely and dose you accordingly. I have a friend who had surgery a few years back and has not had or needed insulin since the day of her surgery.(hope you are that lucky)

I am in for 7:45 with Dr Lindsay. The friend who is picking me up is willing to stay over if necessary so will wait and see how I feel on discharge.

When calling the hotels near the hospital ask if they have a hospital rate... Many do and can save you a significant amount. I know in Ottawa the rate went from 135 for CAA rate to 89 for hospital rate
