Question for the ladies

On Wednesday night when I was in the hospital I ended up starting my period because a week before my surgery they took me off my birth control pills. It's very heavy flow is this something that I should be worried about or is it just because they took me off?

Surgery Date May 7th 2013 at Humber with Dr. Klein

I don't think that's at all abnormal, actually. I remember when I had my surgery in 2001, I started my period within a few days. I was actually told that a LOT of people do after it - I guess the shock to the body plus being taken off pills sort of 'jump starts' it?

I'd say it's probably just fine, but I'm sure others will chime in as well. :)

Just started mine as well! Seems pretty normal at this time. I have not been on the pill in years. So that could be a difference.

I wonder if because they give you blood thinners in the hospital if that would increase your flow??

I got mine pretty much as soon as I was out of surgery.  It was at least a week early.  I've heard it's pretty normal.

Is this a silly question but why do you go off the pill?

I went off the pill about 4 years before the surgery. I had been on it since I was 19, and I was 37, and my doc and I thought I was peri-menopausal. My period was clockwork on the pill. Off the pill I have about 5 weeks between periods, which is likely the menopause thing. Since surgery it has gotten much heavier, but the duration is shorter (3 days) and still 5 weeks in between. I did not get mine early for surgery, I was to get it the following week and it came as it should, on a Wednesday morning!
