Bowel movement post op

Well as you all know I am only 3 days post op but I have not had a bowel movement since the day of surgery and was wondering how long does it usually take?

I know the pain meds do that to you.. Have you had any cream of wheat? That had me going the next morning after I came home as well as the cream soups.
Try benifiber or Metamucil

I haven't gone since the day before surgery and am sort of wondering the same thing. I took Milk of Magnesia last night but nothing happened ... I plan to take more right now in hopes that something comes along

For me took 3 days, after walk, walk, and more walk. i asked the nurse said not metamucil. The nurse called 5 days after surgery and she said i can took magnesium milk. Call and ask todo your centre. Good luck.

You can try MOM, Benefibre, metamucil clear, or shoppers has there own brand of inulin fibre.  That's what the benefibre and metamucil clear are.  No regular metamucil. That's not a good thing after surgery. 

I had diarreah  upon discharge. Since then things have "firmed up". I drink lots of water and walk lots when I feel "full",

That happened to me.  I found the first week or so  i was going every 4th day, very small amounts.

I didn't have the Roue n y.... they did the Sleeve operation at the last moment.  The doctors told me to also expect a possible blood clot in my bowel movement.   and If I get a 2nd one to get back to the hospital to be checked.

I had my first bowel movement the afternoon at home after discharge (day 3 post-op).  I have not looked back.  I usually go every morning (prunes in evening).

Jen I had a lot of issues right after surgery-don't wait until it is too bad!  I tried the MOM and it was so gross I almost vomited!  I found if I took 3 Senokot -S before bed and then 2 in the morning it got things moving.  I had to do that once a week for the first month to get things moving.  The 3 usually did the trick for me after the first time.  It is painful as hell so don't wait much longer.  Good luck!

Thanks Monica I finally was able to have one yesterday and again this morning now if I can get rid of this nausea I woke with lol
