Hi all!!! :)

Is there a plastic surgeon still out there that can get the government to cover a tummy tuck or a partial?

Please let me know. I have an appt next month with a surgeon in Hamilton, but I do know he will not get it covered at all

Thanks Michelle

Hi Michelle,

As far as I know yes, it can be covered, but only for medical reasons, such as chronic skin integrity issues.

This post is a wee bit old, but still very revelant, and gives excellent information.

If you have had weight loss surgery and have documented rashes, sore etc from your doctor OHIP will cover a  panectomy. A tummy tuck is something different and OHIP does not cover it.

Defintion of  PANECTOMY -That is basically the removal of the excess skin that over hangs down and is loose. It does not include the tightening of the muscles or skin or the liposuction which is called an abdominoplasty.

Dr Nandagopal in Scarborough. Only the panni is covered if you qualify. Need to have a stable weight. If you have documented rashes, ulcers etc... bring doctor letter. He is really nice. A panni will just remove the over hang. Doesn't tighten anything up unfortunately. If you get OHIP coverage it is $6500 to upgrade to a tummy tuck. Without OHIP $7500.

He will take pics and submit. Takes about 2 months to hear if covered

Thank you so much for your response.!!!

Do they want picture of rashes? is it hard to get an appt? I'm going to try calling tomorrow. Do I need a referral?

Dr Daniel Martin also does panni's. I just had a tummy tuck by him (really didn't have enough skin over hang for a panni). He is great, works out of HRRH church site.
