I was just wondering, how long was it before you traveled?

My sister is looking to go to Jamaica in November, and I hoping to have surgery in August, is that to soon to travel?

P.s Called the clinic today for an update on a surgery date, They first told me I would get my date in June, and now they are telling me end of July for an early August date? Don't I need time to be on Opti? - Sorry just a very mini vent there. Happy Friday!

You would be 2-3 months out so should not be a problem. Be assured they will schedule time for you to be on opti.

I did travel (8 hours flight) 6 weeks out. DO remember that most extended health travel plans will not cover you because of a preexisting condition. So be careful.

Six to eight weeks out you should be feeling pretty normal.

I asked my surgeon this very question. He said one month after surgery was okay.

Should be fine, but if I were you, I'd wait until you have your surgery date before you buy any plane tickets.  I remember thinking in the spring that my surgery was going to be in August (because that was the time the social worker estimated based on how things were going).  Then it got busy and my surgeon appointment wasn't until August.  So then I thought, well, probably my surgery will be in late September.  Then I saw the surgeon in August and got a NOVEMBER date.

It sucked, because I would have planned all sorts of things (e.g. courses I wanted to take) for that summer semester if I'd known.  And I'm sure glad I didn't make any unchangeable plans for the late fall or Christmas! :)
