Alternative non-surgical program
How does someone get involved in the supervised liquid diet the centres are offering as an alternative to surgery? My niece is interested. Is it the same referral process to the bariatric registry? Thanks.
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
My family doctor initially referred me to that program by mistake. It was at St. Joes in Hamilton. Perhaps give them a call, as they have a non surgical bariatric clinic there. Guelph also has started one.

- Referral: Feb 2013/ Guelph
- RNY May 20th 2014 (Dr. Bhojani)
- 2nd RNY (revision due to marginal ulcers) Aug. 10th 2015 ( Dr. Bhojani)
- Revision to VSG (marginal ulcers): March 22nd 2016 (Hamilton, Dr. Hong)
- Total Gastrectomy: Dec. 15th 2016 (Hamilton, Dr. Hong)
I have a friend who is taking part in the next group and she had her family physician put in a referral and has been for a few appointments I guess there is a process to go through before they begin the opti stage much the same as the surgical process with likely a few less tests required. But being that it is a medically supervised program they will be followed closely.

Thanks all. I will advise her to make a few phone calls. I don't know which centre would be closest to Oshawa. She can do it - these kids are very resourceful these days.

Humber River would be her closest. I live just east of Oshawa and I know that they do the OPTI program as well.
