Sharp Pain

I have a very sharp pain right where my new pouch would be (or near the area) every time I breathe in deeply. It feels like a muscle stitch. Not sure if it was from taking my vitamins last night, felt like they had a bit of trouble.

I called my hospital and waiting. Help! Aug.14 surgery.

I spent weeks bent over, waiting for my stitch to go away.  Heat helps, sometimes Tylenol.  Walking really doesn't even though you are supposed to get up and do it (and I did it anyways).

I was told it was scar tissues forming ?  and that I was healing.  HOWEVER, I love that you contacted the hospital.  These things are not to be fooled around with.

I hope you get answers and take good care !

That's what it feels like, it's constant now. Thank you for the advice I think it's healing but of course, I'm nervous.

You just had surgery August 14th.  Are you still taking pain meds and the pain is still greater than the meds?  Why would your vitamins cause you discomfort? Are they not liquid or chewable?

If you are still in pain, do not wait for a call-back, head to the emergency room of your bariatric hospital.  It may not be serious, but new pains should not be ignored.

Hi Judy, I'm not on pain meds, didn't need them but this woke me up this morning when I moved. The hospital told me to chop my multi into 4 so I did 6 but it just didn't feel right. I'm switching to chewable today.

I'm not in the city of my surgery but if no resolve I will head there. Thank you.

It is possible (even if unlikely) that a large chunk of (whatever) vitamin pill could have reopened an incision in your new pouch.

However it is more likely that a small hernia has developed. This can be easily repaired, but would require a minor surgery.

They will likely perform an ultrasound in order to establish what kind of damage has been done in there.

Good luck - definitely the right call, to go back to the hospital.

That's good that you called the hospital...I would call them back to follow up with them.  On another note, were you prescribed blood thinners post op?  Not everyone gets prescribed it but if you are currently on blood thinners then great!

If not and the pain that you're feeling is getting worse as you breathe, definitely get yourself to the hospital pronto.   Years ago after I wa**** by a car, I ended up with having similar pains when I would breathe in and it turned out to be a blood clot found its way into one of my lungs.  Because of this information, I was placed on blood thinners post op just to ensure it didnt happen again and thankfully, it hasnt.  I'm not telling you this to scare you, I just don't want you (or anyone here) to experience what I did and recommend seeking medical attention sooner rather than later.

I truly hope this isnt the case with you and that things get better for you soon!!  Whatever the case may be, you're doing a great job being your own advocate and looking into what this pain is and if it does get worse (and I pray that it doesn't) then please don't hesitate and see the doctor.
