They scheduled 3 hours for me but it took 1.5 hours and then I was in recovery less than an hour before they brought me to my room. Recovery can be as little as 30 mins as long as many hours. It all depends on your vitals, they won't send you to your room until you are stable and somewhat coherent. I was wide awake before they even put the brakes on the bed in recovery so they never bothered to put me on my cpap as I was talking to them.
Oh wow the encouraging.
Im not loving the fact I have to bring my CPAP with me. How does it not get lost?
Part of me is, Oh I dont my friends to have to wait too long for me. Then I shake me damn head and say, its this attitude of putting everyone first that help get me in this trouble in the first place.
My CPAP was taken away by a respirologist. They tested the machine and brought it up to my room the same day. They put a tag on it much like the hospital bracelet and it has your room number. My operation was less than 2 hours. I felt really lucky as i was on my feet right away and did a lot of walking around the wing i was on. I didn't have much pain, just the biggest of the holes they make to the left of my belly button. I didn't have any gas or bloating, it was a real miracle! I stayed the rest of that day, the next day and then I left the day after that. Glad to get home!
Ok, thats good. I dont want to lose that thing. Not that Im in love with it, but I darn well paid for it! haha.
Im trying to keep all positive thoughts and visualize myself up and walking and pain free with in hours of being out of recovery.
Frame of mind... it helps a lot.
Well, you will have to go to the bathroom of course. Then you will have an IV to hold on to which helps. I tried to take a walk once every hour and it took me about ten minutes to walk all the way around and back. Then I slept in between for the rest of the first day. By the second night I had slept so much that I was awake most of that night. The nurses were great. They wanted to change my sheets all the time and I told them not to bother seeing as I was only going to be there a short time. They were really wonderful. If I'm not mistaken I was getting percosetts (sp?) which are heavenly!! I actually didn't really need them but what the heck, i took them anyways! The first hour after returning from recovery I retched like I was going to be sick so they gave me that anti nausea medication which I can't remember the name of and then I was fine. They warned me that there was something about the way they checked for leaks in all the new connections in my stomach that caused some nausea, not sure if they passed water through the system or air? Anyways all was well. It was such a positive experience!
Thanks for giving me the heads up on the yucky feeling.
Im not sure how I will be in general. My family doesn't react well to being put to sleep and usually very dizzy and yucky puky for hours after. So they can pump me full of whatever they want to keep me not barfing
