I am pre-op... doing my opti, trying to keep motivated and trying to stop looking up recipes and food.

I am looking for fun fitness ideas.  I love the outdoors, hiking, and camping stuff but I also hate the cold.  I want to find something I can do in the winter and something that is fun that I can do for the long haul.

I have a few ideas of things I'd like to try:

-rowing

-zumba

-rock climb (if I ever get upper body strength)

-fencing

-running

-swimming

Most of these I have never done I don't even know where to start.  What do you guys do or want to do?

Those are all really great - especially Zumba, which is so fun.  Not a fan of swimming in winter = don't like to get wet/cold, but to each their own.  I do like dry sauna in winter, although it is not exercise it is very nice to get all toasty in there. :0)  I have a knee and rib muscle injuries that limit what I can do.  I like:

- recumbent cycling

- weight machines/lifting/free weights

- gentle yoga

- mall walking (although this can be dangerous for your wallet), treadmill

Once my knee is healed I would love to do these again:

- volleyball

- spin classes

- running

- zumba

- regular biking

just pick the one that excites you the most and give it a try, see if you like it.  good luck!

I love spinning.  Its perfect cardio - as hard or not as you make it with the tension AND the girls aren't flying all over the place/I don't pee my pants as in jumping around cardio.  Takes about 5 classes or 2 weeks for your butt/crotch to get used to the seat and hopefully your place has gel seats for beginners.  There are many spinning studios and of course classes at any big fitness gym.

I'm doing a couch to 5 k - using an app on my iphone which syncs with whatever music I pick.  I run every second or third day and  have had no knee pain or shin splints from doing too much too soon.

Planning to get outside and enjoy this winter with my kids.  Ice skating, cross country and downhill skiing, toboganning.  The former three have been impossible for me prior to surgery because my ankles could not support my weight on a narrow blade or ski.  It was so excruciating I would cry.

In terms of cold, I think if you have the right gear and you are active - that won't be a problem.

I would love to try fencing and rock climbing - thanks for the ideas.

Thanks!  I am a little scared of running right now at my size and those tweenie weenie bike seats.  I got made fun of once on my bike cycle but I am a grown woman now with headphones.

May be me and winter will become friends again when I can find gear to fit me... I should soooooo be a snow bird.

I currently run several times a week(indoors and out****ep setting small goals for myself, like getting faster per mile or running for longer. A friend of mine wanted me to try Aquafit..we went 3 times and decided bobbing around the pool with people considerably older then us just wasn't cutting it for as far as fun!  *she's 30 and I am 29..everyone else was 60+* SO... We recently signed up for a boxing class once a week. So far it is so much fun and something totally different then I normally do.

In the summer I would like to try paddle boarding and kayaking, I am signing up for the warrior dash and I would like to run a 10 km run and do some colour runs...I know it is not a sport but I would love to throw myself out of a perfectly good plane and skydive!

This winter I have plans to strap on a pair of down hill ski's and see what kind of trouble I can find! I am also considering a few personal training sessions a month and maybe a spin class. And I believe.. I might even strap on my snow pants and build a giant fort and go sledding with my kids! and of course skating :)
