Visit to Ottawa WMC

Just came back from my 18 month visit with the dietician and behaviorist. Wanted to share a few things with those near to Ottawa/going through Ottawa

I apologize if someone has already posted this information.

1 - they have a sign up telling people they can donate their CPAP machines if they are no longer needed and are less then 5 years old. Thought I would share for those who no longer need their machines but also for those that are newly diagnosed with sleep apnea and need one. The contact info was the sleep study center.

2 - They also had a sign up about how the local Loblaws stores have a dietician who can walk through the store with you, show you how to read labels, etc. The contact info for that was the specific stores.

3 - I was asked about my vitamin intake and was told they have changed the recommendations for Vitamin D and you should be having 3000 IU a day. I'm not sure what it was before but I have always been taking 2000 IU a day.

4 - The dietician mentioned one reason why caffeine isn't good post op. She said that it can affect the lining of the stomach and since our stomachs are so small now we don't produce as much stomach acid we're more prone to ulcers and caffeine can aggravate that.

Anyways just thought I'd share this info.

Thanks, Katie -- I didn't know we had an 18 month visit;  I thought I'd be done the followup appointments at one year (others available on demand, as it were).   Thanks!

Your Vitamin D post is timely, too.

I go for my one year followup in January.  I'll be interested in seeing if they offer an 18 month visit.

Cheers!

I didn't have to go back at 18 months but felt that I was seriously failing at this surgery and needed a wake up call. At your one year appointment they tell you you have to come back every year for 5 years but can see the dietician/behaviorist whenever you feel it is necessary. I thought I was fine in May but I'm not.

Awww -- I'm sorry to hear that.   You're doing exactly the right thing in making these follow up appointments a priority.

*hugs*
