Sore back after surgery

I had surgery on Monday and have had a very sore mid back since Tuesday AM. I think perhaps it has something to do with constipation and gas. My son got me a heat pad and I am taking my tylenol and painkillers as well. I can't get comfortable in any position..... apart from that everything has been going very well. I had AMAZING care at the Ottawa Civic (I was acttually reluctant to leave!!!!)

Any advice???

So glad to hear everything went well - I have only heard good things about the surgery care in Ottawa.  Sorry I do not have post-op experience but from this group I have hear many say that walking around helps a lot.  Good luck and hope you have a nice speedy recovery.

I found standing in a really hot shower with the water on my back helped with any gas pain. And the constipation after surgery is nuts, that first bowel movement is not fun but keep taking any stool softeners you were prescribed and try adding Senekot (or milk of magnesium, etc) if you need to. Lying down was tough for me too - I spent a lot of time in a recliner :)

Glad to hear surgery went well!

I had a sore back too and it was mostly constipation. It helped to get a sleeping pad and sleep almost sitting up on lots of pillows. I couldn't sleep on my side for awhile. Great to hear you are doing good!

While heat may feel good, you may want to consider applying some ice to help numb the area. It's not fun, especially in winter, but I found it always helped...

Hi, I had back ache for probably a good 3 weeks.  I was told by the nurse that it was from the anesthic and it could last longer than mine did.  You will feel better soon
