I've tried a few canned varieties, old El Paso was the best, and wasn't actually that good. Home made all the way!

My favourite canned is Herdez refried beans - you can get them at food basics.  But homemade from dried beans is the best tasting overall and not difficult to make, just takes some time. Herdez has both black and brown varieties and the ingredient list is very short. Now I am pre-op so be sure to check the nutritional info to make sure it will work for you. Good luck and yum, they are so tasty.

I have only ever tried the Old El Paso, no fat added ones, which I like okay. I wouldn't trying making them though. What is involved.
