Hello to you all. I am looking for Doctors who do Gastric bi-pass surgery in Ontario. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Laurie

Hello paramedic

In case you didn't know, gastric bypass is covered by OHIP, and unfortunately, you can't pick your surgeon - one is assigned to you.  There are a few people who have been on the boards who have had the band and then a revision to the gastric bypass.  You have to be referred to the bariatric registry by your family doctor (or nurse practitioner) and once you are referred from there you will get an orientation session appointment to the hospital that coincides with your geographical catchment area.  In my case, because I live in downtown Toronto, I was referred to Toronto Western Hospital.  I was referred in November 2013 and I just had my surgery in February of this year.  Good luck to you and hope all goes well!

The poster is from Nova Scotia - she's looking for the names of Ontario docs and doesn't qualify for OHIP.

With you address are you in Ontario? If you are in another province you would have to find how they deal with gastric bypass since it is done provincially.

Hi Laurie,

Likely your best bet is to start on the Ontario Bariatric Network and Bariatric Registry pages to start to figure out how to get yourself started with all of this.  I really have no idea how or even IF it works with someone out-of-province.
