Starting the journey

I am new to this site.  I have been reading several posts for the last week, and am very encouraged.  I have an appointment with my GP on May 14/15.

He suggested Bariatric Surgery to me a few years ago, and I declined.  Since learning about VSG, I feel this might be the right course for me.

Wish me luck with my GP appointment!

I reacted the same way when my doctor mentioned surgery and then a couple of years later it's done and I only wish I had done it sooner! Good luck in your journey! Kim

Good for you, you have to start somewhere!!! Normally it's not a choice to do the one or the other WLS, but medication can dictate which one you are going to do. I had the sleeve due to Nsaids, which I couldn't take on the full bypass.

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner too. Good luck!

Welcome to the site, you'll find lots of support and good information here!

Normally, the surgery that is done is RNY.  VSG is possible, but will need a medical requirement.  You can discuss this with your surgeon when you meet him/her.

Not trying to sound negative, but I'm glad that you declined when you did.  This journey isn't for those who aren't ready for it.  It sounds like at that point you weren't, but now you are.  I was the same way.  But if I had gone into this journey with not being ready, I would surly have failed.

Keep researching and learning and you'll make it through without any problems.

A specialist brought up bariatric surgery a number of years ago but restrictions at that time kept me from doing it. I was waiting in the wings until those restrictions were lifted and then I talked to my GP about it and moved forward with the process. One of the best things I ever did for myself... seriously!

Wishing you luck on your journey and welcome to the forums!

I do have questions.  Not sure where the Help Menu is.

How do I add a photo? Everytime I try to add an Avatar, and upload a photo it tells me it does not fit.  I have the same photos on Facebook, so I assumed they would be fine.

How do I add my appointment "history" to the bottom of my posts? Do I add them to my signature?

I do not get to choose the type of surgery, since my provincial health care plan pays for it.

Thanks!
