What vitamins do you benchers use?  Have you found a multivitamin with 18mg of iron, or do you take an extra supplement? (Has your clinic instructed you to use a multi with 18mg of iron?)  Do you use chewable/liquid vitamins, or do you crush yours?  Any recommendations of stores or sites I should be shopping from?  Thanks!

My center HRRH recommends a prenatal vitamin. They have all the vits we need as well as the iron. I take two a day, one morning and one at night. Costco Kirkland brand very inexpensive. I don't crush them now, but I did for a few days but then was told I didn't need too, thank goodness, as that was nasty even in apple sauce, gag!!

Your center should be giving you a package of their recommended vitamins list op? Anything called bariactric will usually cost you a ton more and you get less so you need to really check what you order.

Your clinic should give you a list of suggestions.  They do suggest that each pill has a minimum of 18mg iron.  They may also suggest for the first while getting a chewable (not all have the required iron, ran into this, then just took extra iron separately).  Crushing is fine, but the taste will be bad (at least for me).  I tried yogurt, applesauce, sucking on ice cubes and nothing helped.

I haven't checked out the price, but there is an Opurity Multi-vitimin that you can get (chewable) and apparently you only need to take 1 per day.  The others you need 2 per day.  I don't have my list at the moment, if I can find it after I'll post what my clinic says.

i ordered centrum chewables from vitacost.com it has 18 mg of iron for the first few months and then i'll reconsider at that time.  I ordered b12 from vitacost too it was a BOGO sale so i got almost 8 months worth of b12 for like $12 awesome deals on that site sometimes. And the standard shipping is 9.99 no matter how much  you order.  You can ask any pharmacy to order this chewable calcium citrate all you need is the # on the bottom of the bottle and they can order it in.  Its about $10 for 60.

Thanks!  That site is great.  And it looks like I can get calcium citrate there too.

I see that your surgeon is Dr. Sullivan too.  I had my first OTN with him yesterday.

I use Shoppers adult chewable multis. Pre-natal vitamins do not have the right kind if iron for our body to absorb post op. Try to get everything as a chewable or liquid in order to get the max effect of the supplement. Remember we are in a mal -absorptive state after surgery

Thanks, Robyn.  That sounds like good advice.  It will be a lot easier to heal if I'm getting enough nutrition. And I'm sure my nails and hair with thank you!
