I am wondering if your allowed to lose some weight before going to the clinic as I just got my referral.

They say in orientation that you can, the weight on your referral is what is the origional qualifier for the program. You don't get weighed again until you meet the Dr or your trio. (HRRH)

My referral just went in last Friday. So I haven't had my orientation.

Which clinic are you at? Guelph uses the weight from your first visit with the nurse. They told me I could lose weight after that. It really depends on your bmi -- 40.0 or 35.0 with two co-morbidities.

I am in Alberta. And my BMI is 43.8.  The Alberta forum is so quiet.

I had the same question when I was newly referred. Someone here said something rather brilliant which I will repeat: as long as you don't lose so much weight that you no longer medically qualify for surgery, you are fine.

You, too! I lost 30 pounds, but just a small fraction of my extra weight. The hospital I am going to in Ontario doesn't require weight loss to get the surgery approval. Hopefully AB is the same. 😄 Best wishes!

I was told not to from some other ladies that go to that clinic due to me not have any big issues other then asthma. If I go down to much then they won't except me.  I have 6-8 months before I get into the clinic.

I can see their point, but showing that you are motivated and capable of making lifestyle changes should count for something. Still, I don't know about the clinic you ho yo or the specific criteria for Ab. I would pay more attention to people who have been through the process at the clinic you are going to than me. 😄
