prior to surgery i did not, but i know some surgeons like to see whats going on prior... AFTER surgery i developed an ulcer and did need one-- they put you to sleep kinda. its called conscious sedation, so you are awake but they numb your throat and its done literally within seconds... you come too pretty quickly after. its not all that bad :)

I had one before. Had IV was knocked out...was a breeze.

I suggest if you are over 50 , or have prior issues that you may be requested to do a colonoscopy at some point..that you get them done at the same time. 2 birds with one stone theory.

They don't always do them but if they do, it's not a big deal. I don't bother getting sedation when I have had them, and other than a bit of a gag, it's over before you know it. You can get sedation if you want and even though it shouldn't knock you out, some people do go out with it.
