Hi,

I'm Katie. I'm scheduled to attend the orientation in Kingston on August 2nd, so I'm at the beginning.

I'm currently working on giving up pop..well, I just started really. I do drink water, but I need something with flavour once in a while. I love iced tea, but the iced tea I like has caffeine, so I'm looking for a non-caffeinated option.

So, hi!

Hi Katie

Welcome to OH! Trying to stop the pop is a great first step! I use Crystal Light which is okay on the pre and post op diet for those flavour drink times (I should note that is at Hamilton - you will find that every clinic is a little different).

Hi! I am also with Kingston. :)

I find those Nestea water flavoring things really good. I haven't tried the tea flavored ones, but I am a huge fan of the pineapple coconut and the lemonade. They are basically Mio and found in the same area. I also make iced tea out of decaffeinated tea bags. I love Earl Grey iced tea... just add Splenda if you need it sweeter (the liquid Splenda is carb free, but the packets have like 1 carb each, so if you are worried about carbs, be aware of that!)

Good luck with your orientation!

Welcome,

Nestea Zero is a staple in our house and has zero sugar. May have some caffeine but our centre approved it right after surgery.

Good luck and we are all willing to answer questions and share experiences.

Welcome Katie,

I also joined just over a year ago when I heard about it at the orientation. It is a great site as the members are educated, supportive and encouraging. Your health care professionals will guide you, teach you and answer your questions. The members on this site give you personal feedback, share their journeys and virtual hugs - it is all good.

Look in on the site often, read the posts, participate and ask questions. A great add-on to your continual research regarding WLS.

Welcome Katie! The friendship and knowledge you will gain from this forum will be invaluable as you start your journey.

I also went through Kingston last year - I started Feb 2016 at my first orientation, had surgery March 7, 2017 and am down 73 lbs as of yesterday just 4 months later. This could be you soon!! :)

I loved my pop too - it was so hard to give it up but I don't really miss it that much now. I find it way too sweet for my taste buds now and makes me feel dizzy so its easy to avoid stuff that makes you feel lousy. I'm drink water all the time, but now and then I get Blu-Dot protein green tea (10g of protein) which you can get at Loblaws or any of their affiliates. I also like Protein2o which I get at Bulk Barn - flavored water with 15g protein added. As you will soon find out protein is essential after surgery.

So pull up a chair and get to know everyone! We don't bite ;)
