HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WEIGH MYSELF

An interesting article that puts into perspective how weighing often can harm more than help if you don't keep everything in perspective.

Sometimes it's really funny because I'm thinking of something and then I look at the forum and you all posted it! I saw a YouTube video on the 10 things that you should know before you get the sleeve and 10 things that you should know after the sleeve. One of the things that the girl said was that you can become addicted to the scale and become obsessed and I don't want to do that because your body fluctuates up-and-down I found that in regular weight loss so it has to be the same. She said to look at how your clothes fit and how you feel and try to space it out so that you're not looking at it every day.

During my active losing phase I would weigh every other day or so but only record on Monday (bad day to record but I had my surgery on a Monday so.....)

Now that I'm hovering around maintenance I weigh every day. I want to know as I change things up, introduce more foods, or have higher calorie days, what the impact of these changes are.

It really is a personal thing. If you can handle the daily fluctuations without stressing out about it then weigh as often as you like, if not stay off the scale, follow your plan and weigh once a week.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

I agree. I have just come off a three week stall and was weighing just about every day - not back to once a week. I just thought it was interesting that the article spoke about the pros and cons of weighing daily IF it does bother you or if you rely on the scale as your main or only criteria of weight loss or overall health. Even with my plateau, I am measuring smaller.

As I have learned on this site and throughout my journey, it's about implementing a plan, figuring out what works individually for us, and appreciating the support, encouragement and advice from those who may be further ahead. I decided a long time ago that the scale was not going to govern my mood. It's all good. Thanks Ginny.

I'm a daily weigher, but I find it helps me to chart it. I'm more prepared now for what time of the month (for me its usually around ovulation) my scale will pause/slow/not move. I've learned to know that its coming and not to be upset but just to ride it out.

Like you I am a daily weigh-er. I am a data junkie so I like to see the graphs and patterns. Also doing this has helped me be meh about the number on the scale. eg I know if I have a big drop I always have a rebound up so meh...doesn't bother me. I was 138.8 on Sunday, 141 today...meh. tomorrow I'll be somewhere in between and that's ok.

I need to weigh every day for accountability...every weight gain I have had was signaled by #1 stopping weighing and then #2 stopping tracking. I am regimented enough with food that if I stopped tracking it would be no biggie...but if I also stopped weighing....that would be a major signal that i'm avoiding dealing with something.

When I was losing weight and the year after - i became obsessed with the scale.

I had to give it up weight everyday. I was bad for me. I woudl weigh once a week. Then I stopped that. I slowly regained. So so slowly. Until I was 35 lbs above my lowest, or 25 above my real goal.

2-3 years ago when I decided to need to lose the last of my regain - I started weighing daily. a year ago, as I reached my personal goal - I bough "fancy scale" taht connects by wifi-Bluetooth to my devices and records my numbers.

now - when at home I try to weigh every day, at the same time. The daily number helps me understand if I am constipated, or dehydrated, when I eat too much salty foods or not enough of it.

as for the weight - the important number for me is the weekly average. my weight can fluctuate by 3-4 lbs in almost any 24 hour. more or less carbs, not enough slat -minerals or jus****er, etc etc. And i can take actions.

the weekly average keeps me honest re regain. I see that number slowly changing -up or down - I adjust my eating for the next 2-3 weeks until that number is where i like it to be. not too high, not too low.

Maintenance is about balance for me. Not gaining - but also not losing. Very fine line.

Over 2yrs out now....still weigh everyday. It works for me....I need to keep it on my mind constantly to keep on track. Everyone is different though.
