If you could start over, would you do it again?

Meet the surgeon yesterday and he said I only just qualify so was I sure I wanted to do this? I am 48 years old, 5'5 and 228 lbs. I was at heaviest in the spring at 236 when I asked for a referral. I can struggle to lose some more weight (very slowly) on my own but it always comes back with more along for the ride. If I don't do this now I see myself in a few years weighing 250 lbs. How many of you opted out of this only to start again a few years later being heavier then ever? I know there are many risks but also so many rewards! If you had to do it all over again would you?

I'm having mine on Tuesday and have a lot of anxiety about it so I guess I'm also interested in people's answers to this question.

When I met the surgeon he ask me the same question r u sure u want to go through with this!!! But I had high bmi he still ask me if I wanted the surgery. Would I do it again yes in a heartbeat. 10 years ago my family dr talked to me about the surgery I said no, I joined the gym lost 90lb but as soon I stopped going to the gym I gained the weight back plus more.. went back to my old habits.. 3 years ago she talked to me again about it I said ok I will go to the orientation. I was so scared and had fears about the surgery but it really isn't that bad.. I am 17 months post up the first year was rough but worth it. I am doing things now that I never dreamt about. Last weekend I did my first 5 km run doing another one on Sunday.. after my 5km run took my daughters to the beach there was no way I could do a run plus the beach. I couldn't even run.. try and find a support group in ur area that's the biggest support u will get.

Almost 6 yr out. Absolutely would do it again. Have had some gain bit still in a size 12. So much healthier. Lost about 150 lbs. History of losing 50 + lbs then regaining. Nest decision ever. Have had many body contouring procedures due to excess skin. Be prepared. Even if I could not have afforded plastics still would have been happy I did it.

I am only 3 months post-op, but if I had to do it all again I would in a heartbeat! This was the best decision I ever made. I was also just barely qualified based on my bmi (no co-morbidities). I yo-yo'd my whole adult life and just didn't want to anymore.

The positive changes in my life in the past 3 months are incredible. I say do it - you won't regret it!

I personally would do it again, but my starting weight was significantly higher than yours, at 304. I was 52 when I had surgery on Feb. 1st, and I'm 5'4.

Pre-Op Visit: Jan. 10, 2017, weight 304, surgeon: Dr. David Lindsay, St. Joe's, Toronto

1st Day of (3 weeks worth of) Optifast: Jan. 11, 2017

Surgery Date: Feb. 1st, 2017

Thank you everyone for the responses. I definitely feel like this is the time to 'take care of me' and am going to continue the journey. As with everything there are risks and the first few months sound hard, but the rewards sound amazing!!

I would do it again in a heartbeat. Wish I had done it sooner.

I did so much damage to my body by being SMO. Back, neck, hips, knees , even shoulders are a mess. WLS did not "cure" those problems, but made them more bearable. Even breathing is easier. Used to get out of breath walking from car to house....I can't remember the last time I had to stop to catch my breath!

WLS is a life changer.... as long as we stick to the guidelines.

Best of luck to you!

I have no regrets of my decision. Being 56...tired of being in pain, lack of mobility and sick of being a spectator instead of a participant on many things in life..

Ya... I'd do it all again. I should have done this when I was in my mid 40's. So much I missed out on.
