Diet progression

Hi guys o was just wondering how most of you progressed through your diet stages post op. Did you stay at the speed they suggested or did you move faster? In Ottawa it is 3 days clear fluid then full fluid until day 7. Then pureed for a week. Soft for week... Etc. I advanced to pureed early on the advice of my nutritionist, and have been able to tolerate quite a bit. I've been paying close attention to how i feel during and after eating and so far I've felt great. Thanks :)

Hi Jeannie,

I was like you. I advanced through the stages quickly as well.

I am 6 weeks out and am able to tolerate everything now, except anything sweet although I am starting to have some fruit in very small amounts. I am also choosing not to eat rice, pasta, bread, flour, potatoes because I want to make the most of the "honeymoon period" for at least the next year. I don't feel that I am missing anything at all and I am very satisfied with all of my food choices. Like you, I have had zero difficulties and feel great!...and the weight keeps coming off!

All the best!

Barb

Hi Jeannie,

I followed the guidelines and didn't advance faster than they suggested. I want to let my body heal as much as possible, and while I would love to have "that next meal", I figure that's the attitude to got me to the weight I am. I can wait to eat the food and form new habits for a lifetime without feeling deprived.

Wishing you all the best now and long term.

I advanced pretty much on schedule, but at very small amounts. For example, when i started on purée, I'd only have a table spoon or two and only at one meal, usually lunch. The rest was protein shakes.

the liquid pre op and post op phases are as close as we get to going cold turkey, and removing ourselves from food.

Its the best time to focus on behaviour changes etc.

congrats on your surgery!
