Acid free coffee

i came across a US site called Bariatric Pal which has forums full of people who are quite negative, but that's not the point I want to make. They sell a lot of bariatric vitamins and protein powders for post-of peeps. They are now marketing avid-free coffee as well, both brand and ground, regular and decaf. I know we're not supposed to have caffeinated coffee after surgery, but these folks seem to think the acid free is ok. Any thoughts?

Interesting. I have a small coffee most days, and seem fine. TWH didn't have an issue with it.

I limit it to one, and a small one. :)

I'm 3 years post-op and drink decaf because that is what Guelph recommends. I drink A LOT of decaf. If I have anything with caffeine in it, I get acid reflux. Guelph says that caffeine is an irritant to the pouch lining and that it inhibits the uptake of iron. I had my appointments in Guelph a few weeks ago and they emphasized this again.

Never heard of it. 12 years ago when I had surgery, we were allowed regular coffee from day 1 and have never stopped. I do drink decaf in the evenings but not because of anything other than I want to sleep. I drinks many cups of coffee per day and it's all dark roast fully caffeinated. I don't think I'd buy into the acid free thing, sounds like a gimmick almost. If you choose to stick to decaf then I would just buy a good quality decaf and enjoy it.

I drink decaf if i have a coffee because i have an ulcer and because im pregnant. When i wasnt pregnant (only for three months after surgery) if i was consitpated i would get a small coffee from tims and it would work like a charm for me.. ive had maybe teo caffinated coffees since before starting opti in dec 2016

I have stuck with decaf at almost 10 months out. I had a difficult time cutting out the caffeine and had bad headaches. I didn't want to develop that addiction again now that I'm off it.

As far as the acid in coffee, I found an interesting article on how you can reduce it yourself https://www.livestrong.com/article/511107-how-to-neutralize- the-acid-in-coffee/

It also says that the main acid in coffee can help with type 2 diabetes and weight loss.

In kingston they tell you you can never have caffeine again after surgery as it will cause an ulcer. Funny how you can get such different instructions from different centres. I think I'd hold off till I'm sure everything is healed. But this acid free coffee might be a bit of a scam. The site also sells vitamin patches, which the local dietician says has pretty poor absorption.
