1 week post op

I'm about to be 1 week post op and I'm doing AMAZING! I am already onto my puréed stage and doing fabulous. Have not experienced any nausea since surgery, and my pain is about 80% gone. I'm only taking pain medication at bed time. I am quite surprised at how well I am recovering.

I am struggling to get the calories in, though. I am seeing my dietitian and doctor for a follow up this coming Monday, so we'll see what she says.

Other than that, I'm great.

You're doing great Lina. At 1 week out, I don't think I was able to get in 300 calories per day. Make sure that you sip all the time. Keep a water bottle near you and sip every few minutes. It all adds up and staying hydrated with help with getting more energy. Add water enhancer if you are having issues with plain water.

You're doing great Lina; so glad you're feeling good and recovering well.

I just drank two premier protein shakes a day plus water in my first week post op and it helped to get the protein in. Super low cal, but I got in all of my protein.

Great!! Awesome your doing amazing!! I'm 4 days out and have had no nausea and taking meds as required and pain is very minimal! Up walking and had bowel movement yesterday and not so much gas anymore. I'm hoping to be in the puréed stage sooner than later as well. I sip a lot during the day and getting protein powder in. I have a follow up call tomorrow and seeing my nurse on Thursday. I have to say the care at TOH was amazing! Glad to be with you on the losers bench xo

congrats on doing so well!

I always find it interesting to read how each centre has different post-op eating instructions. You would think it would be standard throughout Ontario, but it varies so much. At TWH we weren't allowed purée that soon.

The calorie struggle at that point is normal, my NP told me that liquids were more important (to fight off dehydration).

That is great Line! The calories will come in time. Sounds like you are bouncing back and that is great!

Welcome to the bench!

Congrats - you are doing so well! Don't rush yourself too much - just ease into it. You will get the calories up soon enough.
