Hi everyone, I haven't met my surgeon yet but i was wondering if they decide what procedure I will get? Do I have a say? Throughout this process i have been told that I am prime candidate for the bypass and its what i would ideally want.....but what if.

Thanks

J-Rock.

I definitely had a vote and it counted. Your surgeon will not give you a surgery you don't want. I wanted sleeve and he agreed.nice guy, and VERY cute.

That's good to hear that we get a say in the matter.

I was told the morning of my surgery that bypass was the go ahead. Found out afterwards in recovery that the sleeve was done based on my stomach being nestled behind the rib cage. I guess it didn't want to co operate with the surgeon. No biggie, a plus is that I won't ever feel the dumping syndrome apparently.

Orientation- May 2017, Pre nutrition class- Aug 2017, Blood work- Aug 2017. RPN meeting- Sept 2017. Dietician and Psychiatrist Dec 2017. Internist- Dec 2017. Meet the Surgeon Feb 20th 2018. VSG surgery march 17, 2018 with Dr. Gmora

I noticed that when i read your post. Got me thinking. I understand if they go in and the plan changes I am good with the surgeon doing their job and making a call while Im in the Operating Room. Hope you feel better soon.

I did NOT have a vote. My surgeon told me what I was having. He listened to me about my desire for the sleeve but said no. He told me that RNY was the best option for me.

I signed consents for both procedures. I went into surgery knowing that I was supposed to have an RNY but also knew that if there was an issue, he would do a sleeve.

First question I asked when I woke up in recovery was "what did they do?"

I got RNY.

They always intended to do the RNY on me, due to my health issues, a better health result was anticipated, also because of my GERD wasn't really a candidate for a sleeve. But I also had to sign consent for both just in case.

The default for surgery is RNY. That's the standard in Ontario.

SOME surgeons consider patients request if there is a reason. Some don't.

I had a vote!! My surgeon and I made the decision together. If I had wanted the sleeve, he would have done it. I wanted RNY and he agreed it was a great choice for me.

As he said, it's my body, and my choice.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.
