One Month Follow Up

Went for my one month follow up at TWH yesterday, it was kind of like a cattle call lots of people there, but I did get one on one with the NP who was able to answer a couple questions.

We then had a group class with the NUT which was really good, lots of interaction between the 10 or so people there who seem to vary from 4 - 7 weeks out lots of different recovery rates too, I've been incredibly lucky so far with no complications and good weight loss. But it's also good to hear of the people who are 5 weeks out and can still only eat a 1/4 of a cup at a time, I was surprised as I thought we were still to be only at 1/2 cup per meal but the NUT said we should start working towards 1 C per meal. Mind you she also wants us to start adding more veggies and to be getting our protein from food. There was a lot of sharing back and forth about meal ideas and what sucked. Lots of emphasis on getting your vitamins and moving from chewable to regular vitamins.

They handed out our blood requisitions for the next 5 years, I guess the goal is not to lose them.

Was told we could start trying raw veggies, yeah salad here I come, once we hit 9-10 weeks.

Lots of talk about stalls with just about everyone having had one by now, lots of encouragement to stick to plan and you'll start losing again.

So glad to hear what this process was like. I was wondering about lab requisitions, etc...

Question: after your surgery did one of the nurses call to check on you? I remember at the dietitian appointment being told after surgery someone calls to see how things are going. I've never received a call so wondering if I got lost in the shuffle from TWH and Guelph.

Thanks

Maybe I didn't get the call because I was still in hospital on day 3. I just remembered because at my dietitian appointment someone called and asked when could she eat pancakes!! My thought was man, I don't think you learned enough before surgery.

Yeah there were a few interesting questions at the meeting yesterday, but most people seemed to be on point. My husband will occasionally ask when I'll be able to eat something but its more like, steak and roast beef, I took him with me yesterday cause I figured it would hurt him to learn a little more.

I never got a call. Lol.

Well, I got a call about 2 months out... but it was a research call, not a nurse call.

Glad to hear your one month follow up went well! I had to miss my group nutrition session on the day of my follow up (kidney issue related so I couldn't get there) and am kind of disappointed I missed the discussion with others piece of it, although we have here live discussion always provides some different pieces, glad you got to engage in that.

I too have mostly been having a quarter cup and sometimes up to half a cup when I add other things in, at least it's not just me. Although my Center says max a half cup right now, it's so weird how we all get different info at different centres! Whoop whoop on the veggies, that's exciting!
