Struggling with Optifast

Hi everyone, i'm on day 2/14 of my optifast and I'm struggling like crazy. It's not hunger or cravings but instead I find the opti to be way too sweet. I've tried them with sugar free syrups, without, with decaf coffee, without. I just had my first one of the day and I almost puked it right back up. i find myself shaking afterwards and I try to drink lots of water and brush my teeth but it still sucks. Idk I never expected it to be this bad. I'm trying to keep my eyes on the surgery date and take it a day at a time but I don't think this opti part is gonna work for me.

Have any of you had similar experiences? How did you handle it??

It does get easier day 4 usually. Are you blending it? Lots of water and ice? I had to drink mine through a straw too. I only liked the chocolate. Good luck. You can do this.

I found the opti stage has been the hardest of the journey so far. I really disliked the taste and found it hard to get down. It does get easier as the days pass but just remember that this is a small part of the overall process and it will be over before you know it ( trust me even though it doesn't feel like now). I too found it easier to drink through a straw and very cold. You can do it!

I could only drink it blended with LOTS of ice. It totally changed the consistency. I would also chase it with a glass of ice water and that seemed to help.

You can do this, it will get tolerable. I added 1 large heaping tablespoon of decaf coffee crystals to each shake to cut the sweetness, lots of ice and blended it. Vanilla was the worst. I put decaf crystals in both chocolate and vanilla.

Water it down it makes a big difference. Make it with at least 500 mls water, or 400 mls water and blend with ice. I found the chocolate way better as the vanilla was chalky and not as smooth and felt more artificially sweet.

I found them too sweet also, so added more water/ice. I got kind of used to the taste after a few days, and no longer had to drink through a straw, at least before surgery I could drink down quickly and I followed with water with lemon, as it tended to repeat on me. I added a tsp of cocoa to the vanilla which helped or sometimes added peppermint extract to the chocolate for a change. Hey it's only 2 weeks, you can do it.

My suggestion is to drink the Opti through a straw. Kind of bypassed your nose and taste buds. I also knew a lady here who drank her Chocolate Opti with ho****er from her Keurig (not boiling ho****er from a kettle) and she drank her Opti with a straw and drank it like a hot chocolate.

Sounds like you (and me) have a good nose and good taste buds. Near the end of my two weeks of Opti I would often drink mine with my nose plugged, swear to god! I like you near the end could not get past the taste which is often why I didn't finish my fourth of the night.

I just wrote to "Joannab" who is also doing Opti that I would drink my Opti all day long and then drink mostly broth or eat jello in the evening as I just could not take any more opti.

As long as you are not cheating and eating food you are doing great. Use a straw, hold your nose, do whatever you gotta do to get it done, you can do this!!

Good luck on your journey.. I mixed it up , and blocked my nose and chugged. added a bit more ice cold water to make it easier.. I did find after 5 days or so, its almost like my body gave in and accepted the process...

I couldn't stand Opti either, I added cocoa to the vanilla and chocolate to help take the sweetness away, extra water and ice. It did get easier but I never did enjoy it. Very nasty stuff! Good Luck.
