Flu shot

Question?

Has anyone had the flu shot after surgery?

I have only once before got a flu shot and that was when H1N1 was in high alert. I did get very sick that year and swore i was never going to get another one-well this year i got one last Friday and i feel horrible. I may be overthinking this because i analyze everything way too much. My stomach hurts even to the touch.

The only reason i got it is because i am having skin removal surgery after loosing 100 pounds from my surgery 3 years ago and do not want to get sick not so much before the surgery but after.

I would like to hear from my RNY friends about what they think?

Thank you

Lisa

I've been getting flu shots for the last 3 years because I have autoimmune disorder. I never have any issues. The most I ever had is just slight soreness at the injection site for a few hours. Correlation doesn't equal causation. It could be psychosomatic or another illness/issue.

I had mine last week. No issues. I have never had any adverse effects. Just a little tenderness in muscle where shot was given.

I've been getting flu shots for 15 years due to other health issues, never had a reaction beyond minor pain at injection site (happens when I get my B12 shot too).

I remember a few years ago they used to ask about egg allergies before getting the shot due to the base they are made with, as it can cause an allergic reaction in those people, but it's usually mild and the benefits usually out weigh the reaction.

I get them every year. No problems.

btw - true flu is a respiratory virus, not a stomach virus. If it's your stomach that's bothering you, that might be norovirus. It's not related.
