Topic: RE: A bit discouraged

I'm 9m out and I've now lost 127lb and I'm 31lb from my absolute goal weight (I'm 5'11, I was 323lb now 196lb. My goal is 165lb). The surgeon said my goal was 210lb and the dietician said that the expectation is we lose 25%-35% of overall body weight by 18m. I've already surpassed that. When I was asking for additional help/support as I keep stalling for 4-6w at a time she said I need to just accept that this is me done losing and my body has found it's mark and this is it for me. I've since lost 22lb more from when she said that.

My goal is to be right in the middle of a healthy BMI for my height. She said this is unrealistic and I'm setting myself up to fail. What is unrealistic is for them to treat us all the same. We're individual, have individual hopes and wants. I know certainly a lot of people are more than happy to lose what I have and still be more than comfortable at my current BMI (which is 27.3) but I am not. I have gone through a lot from this surgery and I won't settle until I hit my own goal - not their goal for me.

Apparently around the 2yrs out mark there is a bit of regain for most people but it's around 5lb-10lb from what I've read. This isn't most of the weight lost by any stretch.

As ever, take what they say with a pinch of salt and do your own research.

I am in a desk job but I'm a remote worker so I think this may have helped somewhat but I had just under 2 weeks off (surgery was Tuesday, I had to travel down from Sudbury to Toronto so flew down on the Monday - so it was actually 12 days I had off from work after my op rather than 14).

I was totally fine after 2 weeks. I did have some complications but was still fine to work after the 2 week period.

I know I'm a while off for plastics (just 5m out but 98lb down with 60lb to go) but I can already tell I'll need a fair bit doing.

Ive heard lots of really good things about usculpt in Vaughn so I'll look into them further when it's time.

How long os recommended to wait before plastics? I'm losing pretty quickly so far and I'm hoping to be at goal for my 12m/1yr surgiversary and I don't know if it's a certain time period requirement before you should look into plastics.

Topic: RE: Barium swallow - any experiences

I'm having some troubles with nausea and food feeling like it's stuck. I've been checked and don't have a stricture or ulcer just some irritation in my pouch. They've asked for a low volume barium swallow test to be done (tomorrow).

Do any of you wonderful people have any experience of this and can give me an idea on what to expect? Will I need to have an IV placed? I have super deep veins and I just had an IV last week for the gastroscopy I had done and my only "good" vein is really bruised and sore and I'd rather not need another (especially as I'm due my annual colonoscopy next week and will need an IV for that as well).

In all honesty, even with the nausea I would do this again. I'm 73lb down and the lightest I've been in 17yrs. I'm feeling really well (overall). I just wish the nausea would do one and let me live my best life now that I have more energy and ability to do so!

It was the surgeon that did my surgery that I went to for the endoscopy/gastroscopy (had to travel down to TO as well!). I will give the meds a chance to work before I start hounding them again. :)

How are you feeling overall?

I had RnY Feb 27th so I'm 3m out. I feel nauseous and have every day since surgery. They thought I might have a stricture or an ulcer so an endoscopy was completed last week. I don't have either. Dr Sullivan did say several of my staples are still clearly visible inside and they should have healed over long ago and that my pouch is really irritated. I've been prescribed meds that they use for ulcers to help coat my stomach to ease the irritation and aid healing.

The nausea has not improved. I can't take gravol as it totally knocks me out (much much stronger since surgery). The ginger/non-drowsy ones don't work either. My family Dr won't prescribe anti-nausea meds as he feels it's masking a symptom.

I'm getting around 70-80oz of fluids in each day and approx 80-100g protein (mostly in the way of shakes as most foods make the nausea worse or feel like they are stuck - this is why they suspected a stricture).

I really do feel miserable and wondered if anyone had similar and it got better

Just had my blood work back - It shows my iron levels are low and my RDW is High both confirm I'm anemic. I take iron tablets every day on top of the iron in the multivitamin I'm taking (I'm also vit d deficient, but it's winter in the northern hemisphere so I'm not worried about this and it also shows I'm slightly dehydrated). I have my follow up with the bariatric clinic on Wednesday. Are they likely to put me on a prescription grade iron tablet? Also, could this be why I feel so nauseous?

I had my gallbladder out in 2012 thankfully once less thing to worry about.

Im managing fluids most of the time with the occasional day of not getting enough but this really is occasionally.

Hi all,

wondering how normal it is to feel nauseous almost always? There are days when food goes down really well and I hit my protein goals and fluids easily. However probably 4 or 5 days out of 7 are hard. Nothing sits well. I can only manage a bit or two of things that have gone down really well in the past and then I feel like the food just can't go any further and the nauseous kicks into overdrive.

I haven't been weighed in 10 days but I was 48lb down since starting opti (31 since surgery) so the weight is going down I just feel like crap.

Ive tried just going back to full fluids and then purée but I have the exact same issues (doesn't help that I dump on every soup I've had since surgery no matter what the sugar/carbs/fat content is).

Im unsure if the fact I had a nasty car accident 2 weeks post op is contributing to the issues (banged my stomach on the steering wheel with a lot of force but CT scan was clear for damage) or if it's just rough going.

I think I might introduce a couple of tsp of puréed veg soon (soup hasn?t sat well since my surgery even trying nearly every kind available it makes me vomit).

I'm now on the purée stage and from reading on the forum I feel I might be eating too much. My protein target is 90-100g per day

I have a premier protein (30g protein) shake in one sitting (can take up to an hour but I drink it and don't have to keep coming back to it). I also have the splash drink once a day (24g protein)

If I have a source yogurt for breakfast I can also eat that in one sitting taking about 15-20m to eat or a scrambled mushy egg with a cheese triangle in it (again around 20 mins). When I've pureed chicken or salmon i measure it into 1/4 cup portions but I'm often not full/satisfied after this and have on occasion had 1/2 cup. I haven't introduced fruit or veggies really yet and I'm sticking to protein only (although most of my carbs come from dairy products milk/yogurt)

From other threads I've read on here I'm having more than I should at this stage (surgery was 3 weeks ago this coming Tuesday). I'm hitting my fluid goal and my protein goal most days sitting around 500-700 calories. I'm in a panic now that I'm not doing things right and I'm looking for some advice.

My surgery was Feb 27th.

The post surgery diet is quite heavily milk/dairy based. I struggled for the first 10 days to keep water down and was drinking milk which is high in carbs but when you're getting almost nothing else in you take what you can.

Now at 2.5 weeks out it's getting easier. I pureed some chicken and added a tbsp of Greek yogurt to increase the protein. I also found these little cans of different flavoured tuna at Walmart that have 15-18g protein and 0-2g carbs which helps.

I also found something called Splash at GNC which is protein powder which tastes just like still pop/juice. I got the fuzzy peach and it's delicious (24g protein and 10oz fluid so win win). I haven't had any crackers or melba toast. I didn't think I could have those (and shan't try them)

I think it?s usually those who don?t have a ton of complicated medical issues and who?s paperwork responses show them as being ?on it? so ready to make the changes required.

Whatever it is I?m delighted for everyone moving quickly. My 1-1s happened much quicker than people on my orientation and I?m having surgery as they are finishing theirs.

I do think as a rule they are insanely disorganized in the Sudbury centre. They lose people?s paperwork, forget your there for your appointment which you then miss (my OTN this happened with) and then they call to book your 1-1s while your sitting at your preop lol

I think you're the 4th person I've read about who had their orientation in January and are now almost finished their 1-1's. After 1-1's are finished the meet the surgeon is often the same week (or the following Thursday) and surgery is generally 1 month after the meet the surgeon.

I'm super excited for you!

My surgery is 4 sleeps away (It's on Tuesday) and it has gotten better. It's still not been great tbh and I'm craving a number of things randomly such as goats cheese or a boiled egg (I haven't succumbed yet) but I'm not as hungry by any stretch and I forgot the 4th shake a couple of times. I am trying to be consistent with my drinks and I'm having close to 4.5lts of fluids per day.

I can't tell if I've lost weight as my bathroom scales are so unreliable. They said I'd gained 6lbs then said I'd lost 8lbs so I'll wait until I'm weighed on Tuesday to know one way or the other.

Thank you for checking up on me xo

My husband bought us a Ninja blender and I?m getting a ton of use out of it during opti and I suspect I?ll use it after surgery for the purée stage too.
