Hello everyone

I am writing this updste feom the comfort of my lazy boy!!

I had my roux en y on Tuesday in Kingston Ontario.

Recovery was rough for me, i had a really hard time coming out of the anestheic but the recovery room staff were amazing and I made it through!

I have not needed pain meds for two days now, i am sore and uncomfortable but doing well for the most part.

I lost 15 lbs on optifast and will be weighing in on Tuesdays!

Thats all for now!!

I just had surgery on Tuesday...

These were my key items!

Bottled water ( hated the taste of hospital water)

Lip chap

Lotion

Loose t shirt and shorts

Loose bra with no underwire (i have an incision between my breasts at the top of my stomach...underwire digs in while sitting)

My tablet...used it as a timer for drinking water, netflix, i would watch an episode then walk a lap or two

Good Luck!!!

Spacing them out is key!! Also adding flavor to them! I am on day 16/21, surgery is on April 17th.

Like most have said the first couple of days were rough, but then I started adding sugar/calorie free syrup to my shakes and I love them!

I don't mind the chocolate on its own but the vanilla is barely tolerable. I have only had 3 servings of jello besides the shakes and I am doing well!

Winner's & Home Sense carry Jordan's Skinny Syrup's in different flavors, right now I am using the Caramel, Mint Chocolate & Raspberry...all three flavors go great with both the chocolate & vanilla shakes!

Good Luck!!!

A couple question for those post op...

In general what food do you miss the most since having surgery?

My husband ( 5.5 weeks post op) really misses chips & pizza

What was your "last meal" before starting Opti Fast?

My husband had pizza!! I am debating on what I want to do Monday!!

Topic: RE: Diet Coke!!

Let me start this by saying I have not had surgery yet, it is scheduled for April 17th!!

Most people drink coffee, I have never had a sip of it in my 38 years of life, I drink (or should I say drank diet coke) At one point I was drinking 12+ cans a day (save the lectures....I know, I know!! lol) Once I decided to go through this process I cut out diet coke....November 24th I had my last can! Diet Coke was my only vice, I am not a drinker and I do not smoke...diet coke that's it!!

I start Opti Fast on Tuesday (27th) so today I decided to have a can of diet coke since after Tuesday there is no way I will be having one!...one last kick at the can so to speak!!

I now know why it is off limits after surgery....I was so bloated it was crazy!! I am happy to say that I am officially done with Diet Coke!! bring on the opti fast!!

Glad you are feeling well!!

We found the chew able calcium (Jaimeson brand) at Shoppers and Walmart

Just an FYI....we asked the surgeon about the one painful incision (upper right) after hubby's surgery. It is because they had to cut through more muscle at that particular site so there is an internal stitch as well! That was hubby's only complaint after surgery was that one incision!

Topic: RE: Best places to get your vitamins

www.procarenow.com has a great bariatric specific vitamin, according to our clinic here in Kingston you only need 1 a day and an additional calcium with lunch and supper.

The bariatric vitamins comes in a chewable and capsule.

I use the Jaimison brand cal-chews (bought from local walmart)

Topic: RE: What did you tell your co-workers?

My Husband & I work at the same place. He had his surgery a few weeks ago and no one know beside me & a few close friends, as of right now a couple co-workers think he had a hernia surgery. He will deal with everything face to face when he comes back, in his own way.

Me on the other hand I have been telling everyone since I started the process months ago! but only a handful of people know the specifics. I am an open book for the most part!

It really depends on how you want to handle the situation, everyone is different!

Good Luck

I had my pre-surgical class this morning and I meet the surgeon on Friday! If things follow the same time line as my husband, i should be having surgery at the end of March!!

Hubby had surgery Feb 13th and is doing fabulous! He is down almost 40lbs.

I am so happy he went first, because his will power is so much stronger than mine & I am not sure I would have been able to get 21 days of shakes in while watching him eat real food!

stay tuned...

Both my husband and I are having the surgery. His is today!! They just took him into the OR! He lost roughly 20lbs after 3 weeks of Optifast. I am not so patiently waiting for him!

I am just waiting on my pre-surgery class, which should happen soon! I hope to have my surgery within the next two months!!

We ordered the Bariatric vitamins from ProCare online...it is US and shopping is $15, however they offer chewables (we were told to use chewables for the first few weeks) and capsules for later on.

We placed our initial order for to last 2 months and if there are no complications with them we plan on ordering a years supply at a time!

So I have moderate apnea, I pick up my CPAP on Friday! This has set me back a few weeks, but not a huge deal! My husband is also in the program and just completes week 1/3 on Optifast, His surgery is set for Feb 13th! With my delay our surgeries won't be too close together, but also not too far apart!

I am familiar with how fast things move since my husband is a few weeks ahead of me! I have had all my other apt's, dietitian, counselling etc...just waiting on pre-op class and meet the surgeon!

When I spoke with Catherine last week she asked that I call her right after my appointment for sleep clinic results, so fingers crossed I do not need a CPAP and can be put in the next pre-op class!!

Hello All

I am from Kingston and am waiting not so patiently for surgery!!

I am waiting on my sleep clinic results (getting them tomorrow) then I am to call Catherine at the clinic and will figure out my next step whether it be more apnea testing or booking my pre-op class! Best case scenario, my sleep results are good and I can proceed with the surgery.

My husband is also going through the process and his surgery is scheduled for Feb 13th!

Any other people from Kingston? Any other couples going through the surgery process?
