Denial

I received a denial letter from the insurance company for hernia repair, breast reduction and panniculectomy. I am a little down, but my PCP is writing a letter and the plastic surgeon is going to change the type of mesh he wanted to use to repair the hernia because Cigna said it was experimental.  I am hoping to have surgery the early part of June. Has anyone had any success?

Not uncommon to be denied.  Are you at goal weight?  Sometimes they want you at goal and maybe 6 months past goal to show that you are steady and keeping the weight off.

Most of us have to pay cash for any plastics as it is considered cosmetic.

Best wishes.

ps - my plastic surgeon wanted me to have kept off 100 pounds for a year before doing surgery.

I knew that my insurance wouldn't pay for my ps, so I started saving for it little by little.  Five years later - my surgery is scheduled for June 21.  It sounds like your PCP is supportive to try again - good luck!!

I have Cigna and was told they would not attempt to approve my ps request without being 18 month and less than 10 lbs from goal
