Back pain from excess skin??

I had my VSG in Nov of 2010. I have been maintaining my weight for well over a year. I ride 10 miles a day 5 days a week, I also do weights and hasfit workout's 2x3 times a week. I just recently got a very sore area of localized pain in the middle of my lower back. Not all the way to my buttocks though, still on my back. I haven't done anything to strain myself, no heavy lifting, didn't slip or jar my back. This pain is not there when I get up, but gets worse as the days progresses. I am wondering if it is my stomach skin that is pulling on my back??..I don't wear compression garments often but I find when I do, my abs and back are sore the next day..this leads me to think it IS in fact the skin causing my problems. I am going to visit my doctor next week to start documenting this.

I am very much on the fence, trying to decide if I want plastics at all, but if this back pain is only going to get worse...I think the choice is already made. I do not have a huge panni, I can see all my girly bits just fine..LOL But I do have quite a bit of skin over the bellybutton.

Anyone have this happen to them?

I also have the weird spots of tension! I think it's time to visit my doctor and start picking her brain, and time to visit a massage therapist too :)

I had chronic back pain from my pannus.  it weighed 19 lbs when it was removed.  I had my TT earlier than most since I had lost over 200lbs.  My insurance wouldn't cover it, even though my back pain was well documented, as well as other issues.  I would see your PCP and see if they can figure out where your back pain is coming from.  You may have inadvertently made a movement that caused something to be pulled.  Check things out before you decide to have a TT - especially since it seems like you don't a lot of skin issues.

In reference to your compression garment comment.  When I wore compression garments, my back pain improved greatly.  I had to wear one to work prior to my TT just to be able to work my 12 hour nursing job and to workout at the gym.  It tucked everything in and helped relief the stress on my back.

I wish I could wear the garments, but they really do hurt me. I feel like I have a runner's stitch in my ribs when I wear them. I don't have horrible skin problems, but I sure could use a lift here and a tuck there! I'm going to go chat with my family doctor this week and see what she thinks.  I'm confident one day I will have plastics, just wasn't thinking about doing it now. May get myself to Dr. Sauceda yet!

It is unlikely your pannus is a contributing factor to your back pain. Except for the largest and most dependent type pannus, the location of it is too low to plausibly be implicated in this phenomena. By contrast, large breasts cause a more significant leveraging of the low back and are clearly associated with low back issues.

Thanks for your response! I USED to have large breasts...they went bye-bye many moons ago with my weight loss. Would the skin masquerading as breasts be enough to cause problems with my back now? After all this time?
