Just an FYI - I was asked to do blood work and a Chest X-ray before Plast surgery.  These tests apparently are standard and are the same testing as I needed for other minor surgery (out-patient surgical center).

Ins cost - $1300

Private pay - $2900

Some surgeons include these testing fees in their bill - for others it is an add-on. Just another thing to check.

It should be included in the price of the surgery, and the cost should be much lower than the quotes you're receiving.

I've been to 3 plas surg and none included the pre-op testing in their quotes.

I did not pay the cost because I was able to re-use the test results from my pre-op for another minor surgery and that was the actual prices on the bill that was paid by ins.  I was surprised that is was more than a few hundred dollars.  But that was the actual cost.  Shopping around may help - You might want to post where you can get it done for less.

There were suggestions posted here to get referrals from your PCP - that is definately the way to go.

Also, if breast tissue is removed (UBL/Breast lift), there is an additional $300 pathology charge that is required anytime breast tissue is removed.

I just went to my regular primary care doc for pre-op testing and my insurance paid for it...she ordered the bloodwork the surgeon wanted... went to the lab to have it drawn, no problem. I did not have chest x-ray-wasn't required. First go round she did send me to the cardiologist and that was paid for too....

I also had to have a mammogram done before my breast lift. Insurance covered my pre-op testing.
