Blood sugar issues in pregnancy

I am 2 years post op and am 8 weeks pregnant and have had major hypoglycemia issues since I became pregnant. I was hypoglycemic before pregnancy and managed it with diet, however it has been more difficult to manage now. I eat all the time and hope that I don't gain much weight. I just recently got out of the hospital from passing out and having a seizure due to my blood sugar dropping. Please help!!!!

I have no experience with that issue but still wish you luck.  I would hope the doctors might have some thoughts for you.

I dont have blood sugar issues but a few times during this pregnancy my blood sugar has dropped fairly low enough to make me dizzy and ill. Although my two blood tests show it is fine...I wish you luck with this

 I've been suffering with low blood sugar throughout my entire pregnancy (I'm at 27 weeks now). My OB was kind of clueless - but he was smart enough to know that he was clueless and he sent me to a specialist who deals with diabetes and blood sugar disorders.

I have to eat all the time and try to control my blood sugar through food combinations, but it is still all over the place. The specialist has me on a medication called "Acarbose" 3x/day. I take it with each meal. It is a medication that slows down the absorption of carbohydrates - in order to prevent the spikes followed by the hypoglycemic lows after eating (reactive hypoglycemia). That said, I don't believe it is helping much. I tend to drop in the upper 60s - 50s daily even with the medication and watching my diet closely.

I test my blood sugar about 8x/day and carry glucose tablets with me for those emergency moments... and I have plenty of them. I've found that I have had to add some simple sugars in now and then to try to keep my blood sugar at a consistent level above 70 (very hard for me to do, because my body loves to be 68-70 most of the time). Due to the food experimentation I have had to do to get the blood sugar under control and the constant "grazing", I have had problems with dumping as well. Its one or the other - either one puts me out of commission.

During the first 3 months of pregnancy, I was much worse off than I am now, though. I wa****ting blood sugars of 42-50 consistently and was almost completely bedridden due to the lack of energy and teetering on the edge of seizures constantly. It has gotten better, but I can't wait to deliver because it is frustrating living with a daily struggle to have any energy and not "fall out".

You are not alone - I'm muddling through and you will get through this too and hopefully all will be better for us after our little sweeties are here :)
