Because some of my issues are with my blood sugar I have to constantly eat and I feel like i'm eating to much. My carbs have been limited and I try to eat mostly foods with protien in them but i'm scared that i'm going to gain way to much weight. Please help!

You are not alone on being scared of gaining pregnancy weight.....we all are!  Just try to relax as much as possible about it!  You will find that you will be able to tolerate more foods and larger quantities than pre-pregnancy.  Don't let this scare you!  Your tool will and still does work!  If you stay concious about what you eat and remember to eat "good for you carbs" along with your protein and fruits and veggies, you should be just fine!  I have to admit that I have gained way more with this pregnancy than I would have liked to and I know I will have to work hard at getting the weight off once the baby is here...but I know it's possible and that I did it before!  Some woman drop the weight very quickly and even lose below pre-pregnancy weight and others have a hard time getting the 5-20lbs off.  Just remember that it's possible!  Remember to drinks lots of water and make good food choices and remember that the weight gain is good and is for the baby!

I am just as worried as you are about it. I am about 17.5 weeks and up 9 lbs! :( I know most of it is fluid retention (I'm chronically dehydrated because I have hyperemesis) and my dr is fine with it, but I'M not. I am having issues with the gain. I am terrified I won't lose it all, and I worked SO HARD to lose all the weight I did from my RNY. It's totally scary bc all I want is carbs!

You NEED carbs right now Heather, and the OP. Heather, you know I was in similar boat to you. it FREAKED me out. But if while pregnant we don't get at least 100g of carbs a day we put baby at serious risk. As much as its a pain in the ass, we gotta do what we gotta do for the little ones!

I can totally relate. Being 21 weeks pregnant, and have gained a solid 11-12lbs now, I'm in panic mode. I know some of it is related to dietary changes, and horrific cave-ins on cravings.

I'm petrified to be honest, but I just can not for the life of me stop eating, or eating a balanced diet. We found out today that the baby has gained 6 ounces in the last 2.5 weeks since my last u/s. I know there can be some variations in weight on a u/s, but apparently we are both thriving. I am trying to remain positive, but it's the scariest aspect I've experienced.

What kind of things are you eating or craving? I have absolutely no appetite, and i'm nauseated more than not! I have to force myself to eat because my blood sugar has been a huge issue with my pregnancy. Is this your first child? I'm scared to death with all of the complications that i'm having. I can't work and am on pretty much bed, couch, chair rest for now.

First, I want to say that I'm sorry you are having such a rough pregnancy with complications. I can't imagine being on couch/bed rest.

I crave anything and everything spicy, and fried. Not the greatest combinations, and I rarely give in to the fried food cravings which actually have been limited to chicken tenders and corn dogs.

I crave meat too, steaks and scallops are favorites, but I am probably one of the most carnivirous women you'd ever meet.

Fortunately, I have had zero nausea or food issues. Plus, this has been a very normal pregnancy with VSG. I have other health issues making me high risk, but nothing related to my sleeve.

This is my 2nd child, my 1st was 13 years ago, and I had a normal pregnancy with my son, but resulted in a c-section due to failure to progress. I am choosing to have a 2nd scheduled c-section with this one.

I'm never physically hunger either, but I have an appetite. I still forget to eat, and since I've slacked on veggie intake, I drink an organic vegetable juice that gives me 2 servings per day along with the other veggies I eat. I am not a fruit eater at all, and I drink 100% grape juice a few times a week for additional calories.

I've also had a every other day to daily craving for a toasted pb&j sandwich. I can only eat 1/2-3/4 of a sandwich, but it's another weird craving that ha**** me.

I'll keep you in my thoughts, and if you ever need to vent, cry or scream, shoot me a message. I'll definitely listen. . .

Thank you! It has been tough! This is my 1st pregnancy and i'm only 12 weeks! I am so discouraged and my employer is not being helpful at all, so i'm worried about that.  I have to go see a Maternal Fetal Specialist tomorrow and my dr said that she will more than likely have to transfer my care to UNC hospital because i'm "Super Duper High Risk" as she says! My diet is limited to 30 grams of carbs per main meal and I have to do mostly protein to keep my sugar up which is not working, it drops right after I eat. Do you have any suggestions on anything thing that could help me with my appetite or that I could try differently? I just need alot of suggestions and advice!!!!

You're going to have to eat carbs. You simply can NOT stay in low carb/ketosis while pregnant especially now.

I would eat whatever would go down. You've gotta eat carbs, and if you want slow sugar release, go with the more complex carbs. Eat some avocados, tomatoes, whole grains, eat some fruit. You've gotta eat carbs, I know it sucks, it was the most difficult thing for me to accept and overcome was eating more carbs, but it is what it is.

I can not stress to you enough to get more carbs in. Can you eat yogurt? Like the Yoplait light that have carb counts close to 19gr of carbs per serving. I don't deal with dumping or other sugar issues, but you're going to have to get out of ketosis. I'm not trying to stress you more, but remaining low carb and in ketosis  can lead to fetal brain damage.

I recommend eating full fat stuff, like dressing, add some gravy or sauces  to your meats. Get in to see a nutritionist that has major experience with RNY and pregnancy. These are things my surgeon and both my regular ob and high risk ob all stressed to me.

Your diet can not stay low carb focused. Andrea(she's the vitamin guru I always go to, and she hangs out on the Main Board) always tells RNY'ers when they find out they are pregnant, she literally tells them to go eat a sandwich because getting out of ketosis is that important. You're going to have to ditch the "diet" mentality with pregnancy, and focus on getting in a more balanced food intake daily. It's a battle, I get it, believe me I still struggle with it. But, you have to do it.
