Weight gain with IUD

I will make this short

Got to my lowest weight of 194 (311 was my highest weight pre vsg)

Suddenly stopped losing and gaining (Did not know why, thought it was possibly due to lifestyle change, going out more often with my boyfriend)

I was eating well, excersizing, but the weight just kept creeping up.

Went to a new Gyno on 12-29-15. I requested my Mirena IUD be removed, as I did not like how it was making feel. We got on the subject of weight gain. I explained my VSG etc. The Dr. said no no, IUD is not good for women who have had WLS, bc IUD does cause weight gain. He said he has seen several women gain anywhere from 30 to 60 lbs in as little as 1 year with Mirena IUD. He weighed me and I rang in at 238.6 (I almost cried). It was also causing me several other issues like... bad acne, cramps, sore breast, achy joints, weakness...etc.

Mirena was removed immediately on 12-29-15. He said my weight should start coming back off now.

As of 1-3-15 I am 232.4 I have lost 6 lbs.... 6lbs in 5 days! I have done NOTHING different since the removal.

We will see how it goes and I will keep you guys updated.

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING MIRENA IUD FOR BIRTH CONTROL, PLEASE TAKE THIS INFO INTO CONSIDERATION.

Wow interesting. I was on birth control pills for 11 years up until a month before my VSG surgery (April 2015). I was told by my surgeon I could no longer take the pills due to absorption issues and got the Mirena IUD a month after surgery (may 2015). I lost weight steadily until September 2015 (down 68lbs from surgery 242 to 173 (lowest so far) but the past few months I have stayed between 176-173. I had one month of really painful breasts, and monthly spotting but no other side effects that I know of. I definitely have not gained any weight since surgery or getting the IUD in 8 months ago.

How far out are you? Obviously these things are different for everyone, but thanks for sharing your experience! I will keep this in mind in case I start to see a gain.

Well this is a little concerning.  I also have a Mirena IUD and have had it for about two years. I have never had any problems with it thankfully. My weight has fluctuated but it always has and I can always trace it back to my eating habits. I am having gastric bypass surgery in the next few months and now I am wondering if my IUD will cause a problem. Did your Dr say anything about people who already have it in and are going for WLS? I have an apt with my surgeon Wednesday so I will ask him for sure.

Thanks for sharing

Amanda

This is interesting because i gained 100 pds with a mirena iud. I also has many of the same problems with the exception of also incurring chronic bleeding and now sterilization. I wish mirena came with a warning label. Good luck to you on your Weight loss.

Anyway, there are so many [http://motherhow.com/what-is-contraception-the-main-methods-of-contraception/]contraceptives [/url]nowadays, that you can easily do without IUD
