Has anyone had EGD with sclerotherapy done after rny? I will be 2 yrs post op on thursday. I went to see my surgeon on Friday due to I gain alot of weight in the past 11 months a total of 40 lbs. Last August I was 135 today I am 175. I saw him in late Dec or early June I was 151 and on Friday I was 175. He said I may have a stretch pouch or the outlet to my stomach is stretch which means that food doesn't stay in it emptys to fast and is the reason I am hungry and eating alot.
I went in for a upper GI this morning and they mention that may have stretch my outlet to my stomach wasnt sure of the pouch has to do measuring on the computer to see and my surgeon will determine if they are.
Well I know he refer me to a gasterologist to dothe EGD with sclerotherapy but the guy is out until mid August I believe she said She will call me back on Aug 3rd. But she said they are worried about the coumadin I am on. But if I was coming off it soon then they would wait to do it until I come off otherwise I will have to go off for so many days before the procedure They do put you asleep for it
Does it cause any pain afterwards? How many times have you had to go thru this procedure. My surgeon told me that its common to have to go thru it 4 times as insurance will not pay for a revision until all 4 times have been tried. So I am hoping it will help me lose the 40 lbs I gain Even if I didnt get down to 135 again I would be happy at 140 to 145 but to stay under 150 is my goal as well. I do workout 7 days a week at the gym but doesnt keep the weight off. But if I didn't workout I would be over 200 lbs by now.

Robin,

Weight GAIN sucks!!!!  Especially when we have done everything to not gain back!!!
As far as I have read on here this procedure does not work, either does the ROSE procedure.  $10,000.00 for these procedures with no long-term results.  You initialy lose weight with the liquid diet, then gain it back.
I typed sclerotherapy in the search box, and here is a link for you to read up on these threads.

Good luck!!!!!
Come back & post here, it may be a 'slower' board, but there are people who can help you out!!!!

I'm confused---under your avatar it says you had the LapBand. What sort of sclerotherapy did they do with a Band???

Sclerotherapy, ROSE, Stomaphyx - they are all worthless.  The only weight you will lose is due to the liquid diet they put you on - when you start to eat again - well, you know how THAT goes.

Don't waste your time, money, or heartbreak.

well according to my surgeon you have to go this route before insurance will consider revision like putting a band around the opening or what the surgeon will do in revision. He says you have try the sclerotherapy with the gasterologist specialist he is sending me too. And if that fails then he would submit for a revision to the insurance company. It is very hard to get a revision approved you got jump thru hoops to get to that point.

Is he going to do it for free? Is your insurance going to cover it? If you're going to have to pay for it out of pocket, I'd seriously get a second opinion.

I believe it is covered as he knows I have state insurance and they know that I can't afford it. So if it isnt covered they would have to tell me that and usually you can't get appt or get it done unless it authorized by the insurance company or you prepay for it. It is just things you have to go thru before seeking out a revision its more red tape with the insurance companys just to get you the revision. For example my hubby needs his 3rd back surgery but he had to go thru 2 months of phsyical therapy then try injections in his back before he can get this surgery. Even though we know they dont work we done them each time he had surgery. And going thru so many test it is crazy for him. We just got all the test and now we got to go thru 2 more test yet already did ct scans, mri, xrays and ultrasound. Now emg and another injection into the screws to see if it relieves the pain if so then it is easy fix they would just go in and take out the screws otherwise they will extended his fushion up another disc since it is the disc above his surgery that has gone bad. So you can see this is all because insurance makes these guidelines before you can get a surgery. Crazy!

I had Sclero done twice, 1 1/2 years apart and both times lost 20 - 30 lbs and both times regained the 20 - 30 lbs within a year after I had it done.  It is a very painful procedure, the second time was worse, I couldn't talk drink or eat for two days because I would throw up.  What it does is it gives you the restriction that you felt after you had surgery, but within three months things were back to where they were.  Good luck to you and I would check with another surgeon regarding your insurance guidelines, I have never heard of that.
