I'm revising to RNY in 3 months. My surgeon does this in two steps.

I see you have a BMI of 53. Have you researched the DS/Duodenal Switch? The DS has the very best long-term, maintained weight-loss stats for patients of ANY size, but especially so for those of us with a BMI greater than 50. It's also the very best at resolving or preventing co-morbs like diabetes and high cholesterol. And the quality of life simply can't be beat!

Congrats. I just went through the same thing but I switched to sleeve. I know it is hard to believe but the 3 months will pass quickly.

I had the RNY in combination with the removal and did very well.  I had gone for so long with pain and issues due to the band that the RNY didn't feel like I'd had the procedure other than I could look down and see the long scar from having had an open surgery.   You are going to feel so much relief with the band removal.

Congratulations!  I was un-banded 9/4/12 and was sleeved 1/22/13.  At our center one surgeon made you wait at least 2 months and the one I had (the other two left) wants you to wait 4-6 months.  I am really glad he does it this way even though I was upset at the time.  Even at that It took 45 min at time of sleeving to fix the damage from the band.

Good luck you will feel so much better after it is out.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.
