Still having lots of gaging at night on the liquid diet

Day 3 of the pre-op liquid diet. STILL having bad reflux and gaging at night, all night.

I thought that since I was just taking in liquids this would stop but has not.

Anyone else have this issue with just liquids?

Hello mpafford,

We are sorry to hear this is happening. What does the doctor say about this?

I didn't get rid of my reflux till my band was completely unfilled.

I have not had any fluid in my band for almost 5 yrs.

I called the Dr. and he said with the obstruction my band is causing, this is not unusual. That is why they pushed to get me booked for the removal so quickly.

In my case because of the dilation and compromised GE junction there isn't anything keeping acid or food in the stomach from going up the esoph..  So If I lay down the bile would just wash up.  Omeprozole helped, but I assume you are still taking meds for reflux.  Are you sleeping with your head elevated?  It's not that comfortable but when my reflux was bad I slept in a recliner and that helped a lot.

What does your doctor say about the Sleeve and reflux?  I'm still concerned for you because my surgeon said no way to the Sleeve for me because of my reflux.

Hang in there!  Once the band is removed it should get better.  I still get some reflux but it's managed with the Omeprozole.  But, I haven't had night cough once since the removal.

My surgeon said band to sleeve revision wouldn't help my reflux, so his recommendation was RNY.

I don't know your whole history, but I didn't have reflux before the band.  Developed horrible reflux with it.  At the end I had all the fluid out to.  I had the band removed and we have to wait 2-6 months for the sleeve after.  One reason is to let the stomach heal from the damage.  I had great relief when the band was removed but, I was over a month out before I realized no more reflux.

Because I didn't have reflux pre band and it went away after I healed from the band I was given a sleeve and am very happy.  I realize many surgeon consider you a non candidate for sleeve due to reflux and those doing the surgery at one time won't know.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.
