I think it may be time

Hello OH haven't been on here in a long time.

I was banded in '03 and had descent success with the band for the first 5 years, but then life got in the way and I had a small port issue that was addressed.

After having my band completely unfilled a couple of years ago due to heartburn I think I may have something else going on.  I do have a doctors appointment next Thursday, but I think I will call the doctors office today to see if they can get me in for a barium x-ray.  I have a feeling that I may have a hernia.  My left side under my breast has been feeling hard and sore the last month and eating sucks.  Plus when I drink something cold it used to go straight down, now I can feel it go to the left first.

If the band has to come out I'm not sure if I will do a revision, but was thinking the sleeve would be good.  I did do well with the restriction/portion control the band did give me.

I will keep you all posted as to the outcome.  Just hoping it is band related and not something more serious.

So sorry you are having issues!

IF you decide to consider having a revision please ask your surgeon about the Sleeve and reflux.  I had my band removed in May because chronic reflux was causing serious damage to my esophagus.  My surgeon refused to do the Sleeve on me because according to him, the number one long-term complication with the Sleeve is reflux.

I am having the RNY on Oct. 14.  Scary?  Yes.  Necessary?  Yes.  (I've gained back 60 lbs of my 116 lb WL from the band).

Don't risk permanent damage if your band is causing issues.  I loved my band but it had to go!

Best wishes as you make your decisions!

That is so true what Lisa O wrote.  I had the LB in 2008 had acid reflux.  Then in 2009 I had the Sleeve and I have a haital hernia.  I plan to get revised to the RNY as well.    Best wishes to you and God bless you!

I had my band removed after having it totally unfilled because of reflux and tightening of the band.  Than 4.5 months later I was sleeved.  I never had reflux before the band and it went away after the band was removed.  I am doing great with the Sleeve.  I'm not sure why some surgeons say you need a rny to fix the Band reflux.  I do understand that the sleeve may or may not be the surgery for those with reflux pre WLS.

Let us know if the barium shows a stretched/enlarged pouch.

I think the sleeve would be a great idea because if you had issue with weight loss in the future you could have the intestine part done and become a full DS.

10/18/07 RNY ( hw 305 sw 290 lw 189ish) St Joe's 08/14/14 RNY reversal to sleeve. I survived 3 leaks,4 operations and a feeding tube.

Thanks everyone for the support and well wishes.  I did call to see if I could get in this week for the barium swallow, but I have to meet with the doctor first.  Only 7 more days till my appointment  and I know my doctor will get me in next Friday for the x-ray.

I only had heartburn once and it was due to being to tight so I am not to concerned with having it if I do get the sleeve.

Thursday can not get here fast enough.  I have lost 16 lbs in the last two weeks because eating sucks.  The last few days I have been feeling light headed and like I'm going to pass out.  Not sure if it is because I'm not eating or if it is something else. Just so you all know I'm not eating because it makes me throw up, but because it makes my stomach ache.

Right now I just want what ever is wrong fixed, don't care if the band comes, hell don't care if I can't get a revision just want to feel better.  And to think I have a very high tolerance to pain.
