Hello, quick background about me. I had VSG on September 12, 2016 and have lost a total of 115 pounds. That includes pre-op weight loss. I had very mild acid reflux prior to surgery and my surgeon felt ok with VSG because of this. Since March my acid reflux worsened and I was placed on Prevacid twice a day. Did ok for a bit and than 3 weeks ago it got bad to the point of esophageal swelling and feeling of difficulty swallowing at times. I do have an EGD scheduled for next week and have been placed on carafate in the meantime. My main question is, I'm retaining water like crazy now for the last 3 weeks along with the feeling of radiating heat. I've been in a complete stall the last 3 weeks as well even though my diet and exercise has not changed. Did any of you experience this with GERD prior to revision? I was pretty consistent with losing 2-3 pounds a week, so this stall is pretty frustrating. My surgeon is aware of these symptoms by the way and all blood work came back good except for low iron. Guess I'm just surprised at how much acid reflux can effect the body.

I had it pretty bad with the band. Not really comparable to the sleeve though because pulling the fluid out of the band would help alleviate symptoms a bit...and then of course lead to weight gain. I hope they are able to resolve this for you. I know my rny cured my reflux.

I had severe GERD pre-op but my original surgeon was pretty sure it would clear up post op. I really think it would probably have resolved, if I had lost all my weight, AND if I didn't have regain.

I lost on both counts, I didn't reach goal then I had some regain. my GERD has been pretty bad again for the past 6-8 months and i'm taking prevacid twice a day plus occasional Zantac and Papaya enzyme pills when I get actual reflux into my throat.

my new surgeon wants me to do a revision and i'm ok with that, BUT I know I have to change a lot of things this time. I have to use the tool that I have for the long run so that I lose and get to or below goal. I also dragged my feat BIG time on joining a gym after my first surgery and actually just joined one about 6 months ago. So i have that to add to my total equation this time too. He and I are both hopeful that if we set a low goal and I can reach it, the NORMAL rebound gain will settle me at a weight that is a perfect BMI of around 26 for me. I think it sounds awesome.

My biggest concern this time around is having some major surgical complication. I don't know why, but i'm more scared of the revision than I am of the initial surgery. He did mention to me that VSG to RNY revisions tend to have higher leak issues too, so i'm petrified of that...
