HELP !!! Lap band to sleeve on a plant based diet

Hi everyone. I really need to talk about this with those who have had revision surgery. It seems that there are a plethora of members here who act like we are insane for wanting to eat a plant based diet. After much research, I feel for me, medically speaking, this is the most healthy way to be. It's fine by me if you eat mainly meats with some veggies. I won't judge you so please don't judge me!! Having said that, I am looking at a possible sleeve revision from my lapland.

My question and concern is how will I get in enough protein to stay healthy if I am only eating about 1 cup per meal. I remember after my Lap band was placed someone on this website shamed me for eating salads. She said it would not help me at all. I am wondering if I can eat a plant based diet and be successful with this revision.

Another concern of mine is this. I read on a Texas bariatric website that many patients don't realize that after a revision, weight loss is generally slower, and the percentage of excess weight lost sustained is slightly lower than what is experienced after a primary weight loss surgery procedure. Why is this I wonder? I question if it is because maybe we have learned to "eat around our band". Maybe its psychological. I don't know. If you have any thoughts on this I would like to hear them.

The forums are pretty anti-veg*n and I've never understood why. It is possible to get the required protein with a vegan diet and the amount of stomach space you'll have, it will just require you to be super conscientious. There are vegan protein powders out there - I'm most familiar with the Vega brand.

Hey there! Here is vegan support group of one!!! Haha. I don't know anything about revisions and ima relative newbie to wls having had my vsg done in December of 2016 but I'm a lifelong vegetarian and been vegan 10+ years. I have no idea how hard it is to reach ones protein goals eating meat but have not found it that difficult to do eating vegan. There are many brands of plant based protein powders out there and I still start my day with a scoop of it in my cold brew. I eat a lot of faux meat products because they are high in protein and low in carbs. If you want to go more homemade and are more ambitious than I, homemade seitan is loaded with protein and also low in carbs. There is also high protein tofu that I eat a lot. Nutritional yeast adds 3 grams of protein per tablespoon to whatever you put it into. I've also found some great vegan protein bars that are low carb and 20 grams of protein. Also soy milk has between 8-10 grams of protein per cup so that's another easy protein source.

Overall, I think it's completely doable and really very easy. I'm eating high protein, basically low carb (50-100gram), low fat vegan diet and my weight loss has been great.

Despite what people say wls is not a one size fits all. It's a tool that helps, but your food plan has to be customized to meet your needs within healthy guidelines as recommended by your bariatric team.
