Can someone please tell me how to deal with this. I was eating whiting fish last night. I did not realize it had a bone in the very fine peace that I chewed. Now, I feel it a little bit not to the point of pain, but I just can tell it is there. How can I move this along without having to go to the hospital?

When growing up our family was not allowed to eat boned fish without having bread on the table. If we felt a bone or such get stuck we were to eat a bite of bread. This would grab the bone and, or so that is what we were told.

Being as most of us after surgery don't do breads, I have no other ideas. If I truly felt it was stuck I myself would at least try a bite of bread. Not saying it is right or wrong, just saying that is what I would personally do.

Best of luck to you

How about trying a bite of whole wheat toast?

I agree. Try a bite (small) of toast. If it's still there after that, u gotta hit the doc because you don't want it to get lodged worse and tear or rip things up in there. Sorry that happened to ya. I do not eat fishies with bones.

Bones may or may not cause further issues when lodges in your throat. I had to take my granddaugter to the ER to have a very thin piece of chicken bone removed from her throat.  The doctor showed me where it was lodged, and it was removed with a LONG pair of tweezers. Small bone, only about an inch long and very thin. I finally took her to the ER after she complained for several hours.  It's your choice. It may dislodge on it's own, or you may need some help.  When I doubt, I'd go to have it checked out at the ER or Urgent Care facility of your local insurance coverered hospital.  A possible deductable fee may be cheaper now than later. I would go to convenient care. It may be stuck...it may have just scratched....but you never know. I live by the rule of better safe than sorry!

Bread was always the "go to" cure for a fish bone growing up in my house as well. I agree with the others. Try a wee bit of bread (make sure it is untoasted) and eat maybe 1-2 small bites). If that doesn't do it, then off to urgent care.It could be just "scratched" (I hada  potato chip once preop that scratched my esophogas badly for a week!) but you never know.

If bread isn't your thing, a tablespoon of brown rice may help, but untoasted whole wheat bread is usually the cure.
Hope you feel better!
Warmly,
Jackie

I would be concerned about it passing thru the stoma, even if it passes thru your throat. If it were me, and I knew it was a bone, I would go to an ER or urgent care to get it out.

THE WORST THING TO DO IS EAT BREAD!!!! If the bone is truly stuck, you need to get yourself to your nearest ER (not urgent care),and have an MD examine you to see if the bone is there...they need to remove it for you, it is probably lodged in such a way it can't move on its own. I work with GI doctors...it's extremely difficult to remove something stuck with mushy bread on top!!
